Households can profit from volatile energy prices

18 Jun, 2025
Households can profit from volatile energy prices - 1KOMMA5°

As Australian families gear up for the nation’s largest battery rebate program, German cleantech company 1KOMMA5° has unveiled a new suite of intelligent energy products designed to help households turn energy market volatility into a financial opportunity.

The launch comes as the federal government’s $2.3 billion Cheaper Home Batteries Program prepares to take effect on July 1, offering households up to 30 per cent off the cost of battery installation.

The initiative is expected to supercharge the uptake of home batteries, enabling more Australians to store solar energy and participate in Virtual Power Plants (VPPs) that can buy and sell electricity based on real-time market prices.

1KOMMA5°’s newly launched lineup includes German-designed solar panels, a hybrid inverter, and the company’s flagship intelligent battery.

Unlike conventional home batteries that simply store solar power for evening use, the 1KOMMA5° system is engineered for intensive VPP trading, performing multiple “microcycles” daily.

This allows the battery to purchase electricity when wholesale prices are low and sell excess energy back to the grid when prices spike.

“We’ve had 20 years of applying duct tape to energy infrastructure that hasn’t caught up to modern, renewable and tech-enabled energy systems,” said 1KOMMA5° Australia CEO Luke Stronach.

“We now have the policy settings to help Australian households make the most of the abundant renewable energy we have in the country and in removing the biggest barrier to energy independence.

“Our products are here to turn volatile pricing from a problem into a solution.”

The German-engineered battery stands out with a 7,000-cycle warranty over 12 years, far surpassing the industry standard of 4,000 cycles.

Its modular, stackable design allows households to expand storage up to 37.8 kWh, providing flexibility as energy needs evolve.

The system is also equipped with built-in power outage protection and is compatible with both single-phase and three-phase homes.

“Australian households now have a one-stop shop for their renewable energy needs. We design it, we install it, we back it,” added Stronach.

“It’s German engineering paired with Australian support at a time when we’re facing the biggest shift in household energy since the original solar boom.”

The new system is designed to integrate with 1KOMMA5°’s Heartbeat AI platform, which is already operational in Europe and set to launch in Australia soon.

The Heartbeat platform will automate household energy use and optimise participation in the wholesale energy market, further enhancing potential savings and grid stability.

As the battery rebate program rolls out and more households connect to VPPs, industry leaders expect a significant shift in how Australians produce, store, and trade energy.

1KOMMA5°’s entry into the market aims to ensure that households are not just protected from rising energy costs, but are positioned to benefit from the transition to a smarter, cleaner energy future.
