Panasonic has announced a partnership with engineering, logistics and energy company ATCO Australia, trialling a new fuel cell that is being used to convert hydrogen to electricity.
The installation – at the ATCO Clean Energy Innovation Hub (CEIH) in Jandakot, Western Australia – is the first Australian test demonstration of the capabilities of Panasonic Hydrogen Fuel Cells, delivered at a time when the nation is accelerating its shift towards renewable forms of energy production.
When established the CEIH was Australia’s first commercial scale, renewable hydrogen supply chain, a significant technol... more
Victoria’s biggest wind farm reaches financial close
Construction is set to commence on Victoria’s largest approved wind farm after Stage One of the Golden Plains Wind Farm 1,300MW mega-project in Rokewood near Geelong reached financial close.
With all agreements now in place, building the $2bn, 756MW Stage One development featuring 122 turbines will begin early in 2023, with the project expected to start producing green energy in the first quarter of 2025.
TagEnergy has entered an Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) contract with global turbine supplier Vestas, appointed AusNet Services to undertake the grid connection works on a build, own an... more
Woodside the preferred partner for Meridian’s green hydrogen project
Meridian, with the support of Ngāi Tahu, have selected Woodside Energy as the preferred partner to move forward to the development stage of the proposed Southern Green Hydrogen (SGH) project in New Zealand. A final investment decision will follow the development stage.
Meridian Chief Executive Neal Barclay said: “We’re very pleased to be partnering with Woodside which, like us, is focussed on progressing a world-class hydrogen and ammonia facility in Southland, New Zealand, that will provide significant benefits to the local community. In addition to its operational and marketing expertise, Woodside has ... more
Queensland wind farm precinct to dwarf all others
Queensland will be home to one of the largest onshore wind projects in the world, after global energy giant ACCIONA Energia, announced the development of a new $2 billion wind project.
The new 1,000MW Herries Range Wind Farm will be built within the MacIntyre Wind Precinct, west of Warwick, bringing the precinct value to $4 billion, and the total amount of renewable energy to 2,000 MW – enough to power 1.4 million Queensland homes.
Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk said the deal showed that Queensland was a front runner in attracting international investment in the global energy transformation.
“Our Que... more
Queensland infrastructure project a leader in sustainability
The Logan Enhancement Project has been awarded the first Leading rating in Queensland by the Infrastructure Sustainability Council of Australia (ISCA).
The rating is the first and only national sustainability rating tool for infrastructure, measuring sustainability performance across the quadruple bottom line (environmental, social, economic and governance).
The $512 million project includes upgrading parts of the Logan and Gateway Extension motorways, improving key congestion hot spots (Mt Lindesay Highway/Beaudesert Road interchange and the Wembley Road/Logan Motorway interchange) and constructing new ... more
Sydney stadium first in the world to gain sustainability rating
The Bankwest Stadium in the Greater Sydney City of Parramatta has become the first stadium in the world to announce it has achieved LEED v4 Gold certification for sustainability from the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC).
An internationally recognised accreditation system, LEED or Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design was developed by the USGBC to promote and recognise world class sustainable building strategies and practices globally. The revised LEED v4 for Building Design and Construction certification raises the bar to award projects that achieve better environmental, social and economic impacts... more
Victoria’s largest mass timber project tops out
Multiplex has reached a major construction milestone on La Trobe University’s $100 million student accommodation project at its Bundoora campus, topping out the mass timber twin building development.
This project is the largest mass timber construction project currently underway in Victoria, with the entire development utilising a full cross-laminated timber (CLT) and glulam structure.
Designed by JCB Architects to be highly sustainable, the project will deliver an additional 624 beds across two separate buildings linked by common amenities and landscaping. When complete it will bring the total number of... more
Brisbane office recognised as global ‘Game Changer’
Australian independent engineering consultancy, Floth, has received further global recognition for its innovative Brisbane headquarters, which is the only building in Australia nominated as a ‘Game Changer’ in the World Green Building Council (WorldGBC) Online Case Study Library.
In fact, the office complex, located at 69 Robertson Street in Brisbane’s Fortitude Valley, is one of only three buildings in the world that has been designated as a ‘Game Changer’ – from a list of 128 projects.

Egypt project to produce 300,000 tonnes of green hydrogen per year
H2-Industries has embarked on a revolutionary project in Egypt to create green hydrogen using proprietary technologies by using organic wastes as feedstock for its energy production while capturing CO2 and commercialising it, achieving carbon neutrality.
While creating green hydrogen has historically proven uneconomic, H2-Industries has developed a process to create large amounts of green hydrogen from organic waste at competitive costs. The green hydrogen produced from that process can be transported and stored, using other H2-Industries technologies, and released on demand for use in industry applications.

Japanese energy giant increases Queensland green hydrogen investment
ENEOS, Japan’s largest oil company, is set to significantly increase its production of green hydrogen in Queensland.
From next year ENEOS will produce up to 20 kilograms of green hydrogen daily at its Bulwer Island site in Brisbane. The green hydrogen will be produced using ENEOS’ patented electrolysis technology, powered from renewable energy generated by a dedicated on-site 250-kilowatt solar system.
The hydrogen will be produced in the form of methylcyclohexane (MCH), allowing it to be stored and transported as a liquid before being refined back to hydrogen in Japan.
This is the first project sup... more
First green hydrogen for New South Wales homes and businesses
Green hydrogen from Jemena’s $15 million Western Sydney Green Hydrogen Hub, co-funded by the Australian Renewable Energy Agency (ARENA), is being blended into and stored in Jemena’s gas distribution network, the first of its kind in New South Wales.
Jemena’s Managing Director Frank Tudor said the ‘living laboratory’ was intended to demonstrate how the systems and technology required to generate green hydrogen and store it in the existing gas network could work at scale.
“Green hydrogen emits no carbon and is a 100 per cent renewable gas. By blending it into our gas distribution network we are d... more
