QLD to double turbine count for wind farm project
The Queensland government intends to almost double the Wambo Wind farm in the state’s southwest, adding enough generation to the overall project to power the equivalent of 312,000 homes with renewable energy once complete.
This announcement means that the state government intends to add a further 41 wind turbines to its previous commitment to a 42 wind turbine farm.
The Queensland Energy and Jobs Plan, as well as other renewable projects such as Wambo Stages One and Two, are expected to save households approximately $150 per year by 2032, and small companies approximately $1,495 on their annual power bi... more
Construction begins on one of QLD’s biggest batteries
Today marks the start of construction on CleanCo’s battery — one of Queensland’s biggest batteries — at its site in Swanbank.
The $330 million battery project will be delivered in partnership with Tesla and Yurika and is set to be a pivotal component for the Swanbank Clean Energy Hub and Queensland’s clean energy future.
The Swanbank Battery will be constructed on the site of the former Swanbank B coal-fired power station.
With a capacity of 250MW/500MWh, the battery can store enough energy to power more than two-thirds of Ipswich for two hours each night when demand rises as the sun sets.

New Jersey awards joint venture to develop offshore wind
The state of New Jersey has selected the Attentive Energy Two offshore wind project to supply 1.34 GW of renewable electricity to the state, which will deliver renewable power to over 650,000 homes.
Attentive Energy Two, a joint venture between TotalEnergies (70 per cent) and Corio (30 per cent), received the award in the state’s third competitive OREC (Offshore Renewable Energy Credits) solicitation, organised by the New Jersey Board of Public Utilities (NJBPU).
The development of the project is expected to provide up to $105 million in community investments across the state, and the partners are aiming... more
Australian households could save significantly on water and energy bills
An in-depth review of over 20,000 Melbourne households revealed significant greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, energy consumption, and associated costs that may be lowered through greater water efficiency.
Water use in Melbourne houses accounts for 3.8 per cent of GHG emissions, which is comparable to total domestic and international travel in Australia.
Researchers from Monash University and The University of Queensland have indicated that a Melbourne-wide program entailing a simple shower head retrofit could reduce customer bills by $160 and lower GHG emissions by between 98 and 226 kilo-tonnes per year, wh... more
Transforming wastewater treatment for a greener Victoria
Wastewater treatment in Melbourne’s west is about to be transformed thanks to a $711 million investment to modernise the plant to ensure the health and sanitation needs of Victoria’s growing population are met for generations to come.
VIC Minister for Water Harriet Shing recently announced the start of works on a new Resource Recovery and Re-Use Complex — the first major milestone in the modernisation of the Western Treatment Plant.
“Innovation and efficiency in wastewater treatment has enabled Victoria to lead in adaptation to climate change, our circular economy and delivering large-scale improve... more
Hybrid design revealed as lowest carbon footprint for new Kyklos building in Luxembourg
UNStudio, with local partner HYP Architects, were recently announced by the Atenor, Arhs group and Agora Luxembourg as the winners in the competition for the design of the Kyklos building in Belval, Luxembourg, and have found a hybrid steel-concrete design would provide the lowest carbon footprint.
Belval is a redevelopment project that has successfully transformed an old industrial site in Luxembourg into an urban centre that now houses a university and technological centre, residential and office spaces, in addition to hotels and retail. The Kyklos building will be the last building to shape the Central Squ... more
Building’s adaptive reuse saves on embodied carbon
The 1960s industrial precinct formerly owned by Philip Morris has been sustainably transformed into a $200 million commercial community, the adaptive reuse process included the retainment of the existing structure throughout the build.
This has resulted in savings to date of 19 million kilograms of embodied carbon — which is the equivalent of 400 rail cars full of coal.
After the completion of Building 4, the project’s builder — Kapitol Group — delivered a construction program in which these embodied carbon savings contributed to the developer’s overall goal for the site to increase energy effici... more
Feasibility study launched for hydrogen pipeline in Southern Europe
Wood will deliver a scope for an undisclosed energy company in Southern Europe that will assess the feasibility of converting 125 kilometres of natural gas pipelines for hydrogen transportation along the Mediterranean coastline.
The feasibility study will advance the energy company’s decarbonisation goals and its ambitions to become a hydrogen enabler — linking European production to demand.
Wood President of Decarbonisation Dan Carter stated that the European Hydrogen Backbone (EHB) initiative has underlined the critical role hydrogen and its associated infrastructure will play in the transition to ca... more
WA government establishes multi-million dollar green tech partnership

POSCO and ENGIE to conduct major renewable hydrogen project
South Korean steel-making company POSCO and French energy generator ENGIE will conduct a pre-feasibility study for a major renewable hydrogen project in the Pilbara.
The study will consider the possibility of utilising renewable hydrogen to power POSCO's proposed Hot Briquetted Iron (HBI) plant in Port Hedland, as well as the exportation of green fuel to South Korea.
Western Australia currently provides 38 per cent of the world's supply of iron ore — which is processed overseas to make steel.
HBI is a premium form of direct reduced iron which will add downstream value to Pilbara iron before it is expo... more
