A globally recognised hydrogen developer will head the construction of a multi-billion-dollar, world-leading hydrogen precinct at Cape Hardy in South Australia.
Iron Road Ltd has chosen Amp Energy to deliver its Cape Hardy green hydrogen project, which is set to inject billions of dollars’ worth of investment outcomes into South Australia and create thousands of jobs.
The green industrial hub, located on the Eyre Peninsula, will feature a 5GW scale green hydrogen production facility in an ideal strategic location to develop the multi-purpose, multi-user deep-sea port for hydrogen operations, along with mineral and grain exports.
Amp Energy intends to develop and build up to 5GW of electrolyser capacity over the next decade in the port precinct, delivering more than five million tonnes of green ammonia each year and fuelling South Australia’s position as a global leader in green hydrogen and ammonia production.
The planned export facility at Cape Hardy is expected to create nearly 5000 jobs during its development peak and more than 1000 positions when fully operational.
Premier Peter Malinauskas said South Australia’s world-leading renewable energy reputation continues to strengthen.
“The Cape Hardy precinct speaks to our state’s hydrogen production capabilities.
“This project complements my government’s commitment to hydrogen, through the Hydrogen Jobs Plan.
“The Hydrogen opportunity will be transformative for the South Australian economy, delivering energy security – while helping the State decarbonise.”
Iron Road Ltd Chief Executive Larry Ingle said the milestone further validates Cape Hardy as South Australia’s pre-eminent hydrogen export hub of scale.
“Our competitive offer-to-bid process was carefully designed to screen the most capable and motivated developer looking to prioritise and advance the project quickly and judiciously.”
