Horizon Power’s technology boosts solar access to regional WA

Horizon Power’s Smart Connect Solar technology has been expanded to the North West Interconnected System and 20 other unconstrained towns in regional Western Australia. The state-of-the-art technology will increase access to renewable energy to the towns and is as part of a state-wide program which was launched by Horizon Power in Carnarvon last month. The Smart Connect Solar project is removing hosting capacity constraints which limits solar installations across regional towns, enabling thousands of additional customers to install rooftop solar, realise energy bill savings, and improving the safety and stability of the state’s electricity network. The technology has been launched in the NWIS towns of Karratha, Port Hedland, South Hedland, Point Samson, Cossack and Roebourne, in the Pilbara. It has also been rolled out in 20 towns in the Kimberley, Mid West and Gascoyne a... more
Grid flexibility to be delivered in Victoria

Piclo to deliver grid flexibility in Victoria

Piclo, a global marketplace for flexibility services and market access, has been selected by leading distribution network service providers (DNSPs) CitiPower and Powercor to implement a cloud-based local flexibility platform in Victoria, Australia. This move marks Piclo's entry into the Australian energy market, contributing to Victoria's ongoing energy transition amid population growth, home electrification, and the rise of electric vehicles. Piclo's flexibility marketplace, Piclo Flex, empowers network service providers like Powercor to procure flexible electricity from sellers during periods of high demand or low supply. This approach not only helps alleviate constraints and reduce costs for networks serving customers but also aids in grid decarbonisation by providing flexible electricity over costly bulk power from traditional fossil fuel sources. CitiPower and Powercor c... more
Nextracker and Orrcon Steel team up for Australian solar project

Nextracker and Orrcon Steel team up for Australian solar project

Californian energy solutions company Nextracker has teamed up with Orrcon Steel, a major Australian tube and pipe manufacturer and distributor, to produce critical components for Nextracker's smart solar trackers used in distributed generation and utility-scale solar farms. This partnership marks a significant step towards local manufacturing and job creation in Queensland, Australia. The agreement involves producing critical steel components from BlueScope's steel coil at Orrcon Steel's facilities in Brisbane. These components will be finished at Orrcon Steel's Northgate site by Baojia, Nextracker's global manufacturing partner, for delivery to Engineering, Procurement & Construction. The first project to benefit from this collaboration is ACCIONA Energia's 480MWp Aldoga Solar Farm near Gladstone. This project represents a major milestone for Nextracker, demonstrating... more
PVHardware Supplies Record Solar Trackers for Bundaberg Farm

PVHardware supplies record solar trackers for Bundaberg farm

PVHardware (PVH) has announced its latest project — supplying the 100MW Bundaberg solar farm with cutting-edge solar trackers, making it the highest wind speed design tracker ever built in Australia. This marks PVH's 18th large-scale project in Australia, having already supplied 2.2 GW of critical energy. The company, which entered the market in 2019, recently opened its first warehouse in Sydney. Its latest innovation, Infinity, will be deployed at the NSW facility for training purposes, increasing installation efficiencies and reducing the need for earthworks, ultimately leading to faster and more cost-effective solar farm construction. The Bundaberg solar farm's trackers are specifically designed to withstand extreme weather conditions while maximising energy generation. Their weather-resistant qualities ensure the protection of solar panels even in high winds, enabli... more
SolarPlus designs software to maximise solar energy use

SolarPlus designs software to maximise solar energy

SolarPlus, a solar design software company, has officially introduced Version 5 (V5) software in Australia and New Zealand. In a world first, the upgrade includes a Smart Energy Simulator, which enables solar installers and engineers to model savings beyond solar and batteries. The new V5 programme shows consumers how to make precise savings around their house or business by using solar energy more effectively. SolarPlus Managing Director Laurie Kane said: “Electricity prices across south-east Queensland, New South Wales, Victoria and South Australia have risen by an average of 20 to 25 per cent since July 1. In parallel, it’s also becoming less viable for people to export their surplus renewable energy back into the grid — so it makes sense for households and businesses to be more energy independent and maximise their solar power." As energy prices rise and feed-in tar... more
Holcim and FMD accelerate decarbonisation strategy

Holcim and FMD to accelerate decarbonisation strategy

Holcim and Foton Mobility Distribution (FMD), an Australian-owned distributor of innovative energy-efficient vehicles, have signed an agreement to trial the Foton e-AUMAN C EV concrete truck in Australia. Holcim Australia will conduct a rigorous six-month evaluation of the Foton EV truck at a remote mine site near Port Hedland in Western Australia, subjecting it to difficult operating circumstances. The trial will allow both parties to evaluate the truck's viability, reliability, and performance under the specific operating conditions of ready-mix concrete distribution. Holcim Australia and New Zealand Head of Sustainability Cyril Giraud said: “The initiative is aligned to Holcim’s global Accelerating Green Growth strategy. It serves as a local example of Holcim’s commitment to investing in zero-emissions vehicles, thereby helping to reduce environmental impacts while deli... more
