RISE Accelerator seeks Australian renewable energy innovators

24 Jun, 2025
RISE Accelerator seeks Australian renewable energy innovators

CSIRO’s RISE Accelerator is calling for innovative renewable energy startups and SMEs to apply for its third round, aimed at helping Australian companies scale globally and enter the Indian market.

The program, launched in 2023 by CSIRO, in partnership with India’s Atal Innovation Mission under NITI Aayog, supports businesses with scalable climate and environment solutions, focusing this round on renewable energy technologies.

Round 3 of the RISE Accelerator seeks deployable, novel solutions in solar, battery, wind, and hydrogen that address key challenges such as advancing critical mineral and materials processing, enhancing designs and manufacturing pathways for improved performance and durability, and leveraging digital systems to improve manufacturing, asset management, storage, and deployment of renewable energy.

Participants benefit from a comprehensive program combining self-paced online learning, in-person workshops, and market immersion visits, alongside one-on-one coaching from industry experts to boost market readiness and commercial potential with a focus on Indian market opportunities.

There is no charge to participate, and companies may be eligible for up to $135,000 in non-equity grants, subject to performance milestones and competitive assessment.

Lucie Semenec, co-founder of Newera Bio and a previous RISE Accelerator participant, highlighted the program’s value: “The RISE program was extremely helpful in connecting us with the right people.

“It also helped us tap into valuable networks in India, gaining access to the resources necessary for pilot scaling and developing a minimal viable product.”

James Robinson, CSIRO’s RISE Accelerator program director, noted the broader impact of the initiative: “Programs like RISE empower startups and SMEs to gain valuable local insights and forge in-country partnerships, significantly enhancing their potential for success and long-term impact.”

He also stressed the importance of a multi-faceted approach to diversify clean energy supply chains and accelerate the energy transition, including boosting investment in R&D and scaling cutting-edge technologies developed by startups and SMEs.

Eligible applicants must be Australian startups or SMEs with innovative renewable energy technologies at a high technology readiness level, headquartered and incorporated in Australia, with annual revenue under $20 million in the last three years.

Applications are open now and close on 30 June 2025.

For more information or to apply, interested companies can visit CSIRO’s RISE Accelerator webpage.
