Clean Energy Open Day powers on

Renewable energy is powering on in spite of COVID-19 restrictions and this Sunday (25 October), you can get a unique look at how these vital infrastructure projects work through recorded tours of wind and solar farms as Clean Energy Open Day goes virtual in 2020.

To celebrate Clean Energy Open Day, two virtual tours have been created to give the general public insight into the inner workings of clean energy infrastructure.

ACCIONA has partnered with Deakin University to create an interactive virtual reality (VR) tool that will allow community members to experience the new Mortlake South Wind Farm, which is currently under construction in South Western Victoria.

This pre-recorded tour allows the community to explore the wind farm and gain a better understanding of how wind farm projects operate.

The second tour explores the Hamilton and Whitsunday Solar Farms, which are located side-by-side near the town of Collinsville in Queensland.

The two projects are owned by WIRSOL Energy and Edify Energy and power the equivalent of 45,000 households annually with green energy while preventing 265,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide from entering into the atmosphere.

Adding to the Clean Energy Open Day offerings, you can learn about some of the people who make renewable energy possible:

  • Leah Powell has worked for Hydro Tasmania for over 10 years. She loves the close-knit team environment and the variety in her role as an Area Coordinator, managing maintenance of the company’s dams on the west coast of Tasmania.
  • Jarred Alsop is an ex-FIFO mine worker who now gets to work closer to home at the Mt Gellibrand Wind Farm in Victoria and pick his kids up from school.
  • Karina White enjoys the fast pace of her role as a Senior Power Generation Engineer based in Queensland, where she helps develop solar farms. Her work takes her around the country, and she reckons she’ll have a long career in clean energy as Australia’s transition accelerates.

More information on the Clean Energy Open Day 2020 can be found on the Clean Energy Council’s website.
