ACCIONA Energía has joined forces with Wyndham Tech School to launch Mission: Turbine, a cutting-edge gamified learning experience designed to immerse Victorian high school students in the fast-growing world of renewable energy.
Developed by Wyndham Tech School, a STEM learning hub hosted by Victoria University, with expert review and input from leading renewable energy company ACCIONA Energía, Mission: Turbine uses virtual reality (VR) technology to transport students inside the tower of a wind turbine.
There, they take on the role of a turbine technician tasked with maintaining and troubleshooting renewable energy systems.
In 2026 alone, more than 2,300 students from 16 schools across Melbourne’s west will participate in the program.
Throughout the experience, students will complete a series of technical challenges, including creating safe working conditions, managing communications with a control centre, and diagnosing connection faults — mirroring the real-life responsibilities of skilled technicians in the field.
The initiative, supported by funding from the Department of Education, aims to inspire young Victorians to pursue careers in the renewables sector at a time when demand for skilled workers is surging.
Victoria’s transition to clean energy is driving rapid growth in wind and solar projects, opening thousands of new job opportunities across development, construction, and operations.
“The clean energy workforce needs 40,000 more workers by 2030 to support the energy transition in Australia,” said ACCIONA Energía Operations Director, Sancho Laspalas.
“We are delighted to have joined forces with Wyndham Tech School and the Department of Education to highlight the wide range of exciting careers we have on offer and provide inspiration to the next generation of wind farm workers.”
By placing students in a realistic, hands-on simulation, Mission: Turbine bridges the gap between classroom learning and the real-world technical expertise required to support the nation’s renewable energy targets.
It also reflects Australia’s broader ambition to equip young people with the STEM skills necessary for tomorrow’s industries.
“We’re proud to be working closely with Acciona Energia – this collaboration has allowed us to build a student experience that is aligned with real-world scenarios and ensures that young people are able to develop the skills which will enable them to be valuable contributors to the workforce.
“We have 2,300 students from 16 schools in Melbourne’s west booked in for 2026, as part of a pathway into STEM careers,” added Sam Nikolsky, Director of Wyndham Tech School.
ACCIONA Energía, which operates several major renewable projects across Australia, including wind farms in Victoria and Queensland, continues to invest in education and community partnerships to strengthen the clean energy workforce pipeline.
Through immersive technology, Mission: Turbine offers more than just a virtual adventure.
It’s a window into the possibilities of a sustainable future and the meaningful careers driving Australia’s clean energy transformation.
