Avnet and AMD drive Australia’s AI innovation

07 Nov, 2025
Avnet and AMD drive Australia’s AI innovation

Avnet, a global technology distributor, is partnering with AMD, who delivers high-performance computing and adaptive technologies, alongside element14, to launch the inaugural “AMD on Wheels” national roadshow.

This initiative aims to deliver cutting-edge artificial intelligence (AI) and sustainable innovation directly to Australia’s technology ecosystem.

Building on Avnet’s successful AI Tech Day events across key Asia-Pacific markets, this collaboration leverages Avnet’s end-to-end product lifecycle expertise combined with AMD’s latest technology.

The partnership focuses on bringing AI-powered, sustainable solutions to innovators across Australia, fostering industry collaboration and accelerating the nation’s transition to intelligent, energy-efficient systems.

According to research by the Tech Council of Australia in partnership with Microsoft, AI is expected to contribute up to AU$115 billion annually to Australia’s economy by 2030.

Growth in AI-driven productivity and innovation is anticipated across sectors, including healthcare, manufacturing, retail, and professional services.

The “AMD on Wheels” roadshow will connect engineers, researchers, and partners with hands-on AI demonstrations, technical training, and real-world applications that go beyond components to deliver integrated technological solutions.

The tour officially commences with an Opening Ceremony on November 7 at the University of Sydney and will continue through Canberra, Melbourne, and Adelaide.

Events will feature keynote speeches by industry and academic leaders, detailed technical sessions, live product demonstrations, and a panel discussion with experts.

The program highlights the potential of AI applications to support Australia’s economic future.

Attendees will explore how Avnet and AMD’s high-performance computing solutions are enhancing Smart Healthcare diagnostics and boosting efficiency in Smart Agricultural systems.

Additionally, the tour will showcase Smart City developments aimed at creating intelligent and sustainable urban environments.

“The convergence of AI and sustainable technology is reshaping industries worldwide — and it represents one of the greatest opportunities for Australia’s future growth,” said Tan Aik Hoon, Avnet’s Regional President for South Asia, Korea and Avnet United.

Hoon said that for over a hundred years, Avnet has supported innovators in turning challenges into meaningful breakthroughs.

He added that through the “AMD on Wheels” initiative, the company is delivering the full capability of its global network to Australia, equipping local engineers, researchers, and startups with the tools and expertise to turn ambitious AI concepts into sustainable, real-world solutions.

“At AMD, our mission is to deliver the high-performance, energy-efficient computing power that fuels the next wave of AI innovation,” said Steven Fong, Corporate Vice President, Asia Pacific & Japan Embedded Sales.

Fong said the collaboration with Avnet is enabling AMD to deliver its most advanced processors, FPGAs, and technical expertise directly to Australia’s engineers, researchers, and students.

He noted that by doing so, the two companies are empowering innovators to develop groundbreaking solutions across sectors such as healthcare, agriculture, and mobility, helping to build a more intelligent and sustainable future for the nation.

Engineers, developers, and researchers are encouraged to register to attend the “AMD on Wheels” roadshow to participate in deep technical sessions, live AMD hardware demonstrations, and a showcase of scalable, innovative solutions.
