Energy technology company SwitchDin will build the Southern Hemisphere’s largest Distributed Energy Resources (DER) focused test lab, after the NSW Government’s Jobs Plus Program provided support for the company.
The lab will allow SwitchDin to emulate a complete microgrid test environment to test a wide range of DER’s, such as solar inverters, batteries, EV chargers and smart loads including air conditioners and heat pumps.
This testing will enable SwitchDin to support different operating regimes that can affect the efficiency of DER for the provision of grid services and participation in energy ma... more
Renewable energy opportunity on NSW Crown land
Solar or wind power renewable energy projects could be established on Crown land in the Murray region with the NSW Government launching an Expression of Interest (EOI) campaign.
Crown Lands’ Executive Director of Land and Asset Management Greg Sullivan said the EOI to construct and operate a renewable energy site near Balranald is being conducted under the Office of Energy and Climate Change’s Renewable Energy Infrastructure Investment (REII) program.

Maggot-infested meals could be final straw for workers at Snowy Hydro 2.0
The Australian Workers' Union (AWU) is warning workers on the Snowy Hydro 2.0 project may have to walk off the job to protect their safety and wellbeing due to unhygienic food being served on site.
Workers have taken photos of food riddled with maggots being served on site, and other meals that appear all but inedible.
AWU NSW Secretary Tony Callinan said the food being served was indicative of a broader management problem on site.
He said: "Supermax prisoners are served better food than the workers building Snowy Hydro 2.0.
"You have workers living, literally locked up in a camp with limited recreat... more

CDU campus contributes to sustainable urban development
The façade of Charles Darwin University’s (CDU) new city campus is completed ahead of the wet season, capping off the building’s main protection against Darwin’s tropical heat and humidity.
Standing 40 metres tall, with a combination of vertical and sloping design features, the building includes curtain wall with porcelain tiles, horizontal aluminium louvres, and various types of cladding to reflect the harsh Darwin weather, while ensuring the iconic Boab tree is not overshadowed.
The façade is primarily made of porcelain cladding, which is engineered to endure — it is non-combustible, absorbs mi... more
Recycled glass and reclaimed asphalt used to revamp Clarence Street
Around 120,000 glass jars and more than 200 tonnes of reclaimed asphalt were used to refresh a one kilometre stretch of Clarence Street in Sydney.
This means nearly a quarter of materials used to renew more than 8,000 square metres of road surface is recycled. The City of Sydney resurfaces around 35,000 square metres of road each year.
Since July 2021, the City of Sydney has used around 1.5 million recycled glass jars and more than 6,000 tonnes of reclaimed asphalt in its road renewal program.
Lord Mayor of Sydney Clover Moore AO said: “What was once considered waste is now being seen as a resource. T... more
