TotalEnergies has announced the development of a second battery storage project in Belgium.
The new project, located at TotalEnergies’ depot in Feluy, will have a power rating of 25 MW and a capacity of 75 MWh, utilising forty Intensium Max High Energy lithium-ion containers supplied by Saft.
The project is expected to start by the end of 2025.
Along with the company’s Antwerp refinery battery storage project, the two projects represent a total investment of nearly €70 million (approximately AU$115 million) and will increase TotalEnergies’ storage capacity in Belgium to 50 MW / 150 MWh.
The battery storage sites are crucial for the resilience of the electricity system, providing flexibility and helping to solve grid congestion problems.
They also support the growth of renewable energies, which require solutions to compensate for their intermittency.
TotalEnergies Senior VP of Integrated Power Olivier Jouny stated: “We are pleased to announce this new storage project in Feluy, just a year after we began our Antwerp project, which should be operational by the end of the year.
“These projects are fully in line with our integrated development strategy for electricity, not just in Belgium, but globally.”
