Western Power has launched a $123 million cutting-edge energy hub in Forrestdale which is designed to accommodate the increasing energy needs of Western Australians.
This new facility, built by ADCO and designed by SPH Architects, houses 10,000 square metres of solar panels, 34 EV chargers, a 1MW Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) and 28 drive-through loading bays.
Energy Minister Bill Johnston said: “Western Power’s new South Metro Depot has been designed for the future – to support the rapid transformation of the grid, while continuing to deliver safe and reliable power.
“The consolidation of Kewdale, Jandakot, Forrestfield and Mt Claremont depots into the one at Forrestdale will improve efficiencies and services as well as help drive down network costs.”
In collaboration with local Noongar and Ballardong Elders, the South Metro Depot has been named Boyli Mia — translating to Power House — and showcases traditional Aboriginal artwork by Bradley Kickett and Buffie Corunna.
Boyli Mia is responsible for approximately 850 employees and accommodates up to 500 vehicles with its state-of-the-art workshops and laboratories.
Jandakot MLA Yaz Mubarakai said the facility will be a central hub for energy services in the Perth metro region and delivers improved facilities for employees.
“This is a great addition for Forrestdale and the surrounding community, as the 850 staff will help support local businesses in the area.”
The South Metro Depot facility has been launched as part of the WA Government’s ongoing promise to deliver affordable, safe and reliable energy to Western Australians.
