Golden Plains Wind Farm, Australia’s largest wind farm project has recently partnered up with Energy Locals, with the aim to provide eligible residents within a three kilometre radius of the wind turbines with financial savings and environmental advantages on their electricity bills through the Community Energy Program.
The program, a Golden Plains Wind Farm initiative, together with Energy Locals, offers registered and habitable dwellings within the designated radius the opportunity to offset a significant portion of their electricity costs.
Eligible residents can enjoy up to $1,600 per annum in credits, equivalent to the annual usage of an average Victorian home, by switching to Energy Locals.
Golden Plains Wind Farm spokesperson Mark Bruty said: “As leaders in clean energy, we are committed to making renewable energy accessible and beneficial for our local community.
“Teaming up with Energy Locals allows us to extend the benefits of our wind farm directly to eligible residents, empowering them to embrace sustainable living while enjoying financial savings.”
Golden Plains Wind Farm, situated in the Shire of Golden Plains approximately 60 kilometres northwest of Geelong, is a state-significant project that will feature 215 turbines with a capacity of approximately 6.2MW each.
Once fully operational, the wind farm is projected to generate over 4,000 GWh per annum of electricity, powering more than 750,000 homes and preventing over four million tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions annually.
Energy Locals CCO Luke Melisi said: “Energy Locals is excited to partner with Golden Plains Wind Farm and provide eligible residents with the opportunity to reduce their carbon footprint and save on their electricity bills, we are thrilled to be at the forefront of community benefit sharing innovation for the renewables sector.
“Through the Community Energy Program, residents can embrace renewable energy developments with ease, knowing that they are contributing to a cleaner and greener future.”
To participate in the program and receive these benefits, eligible residents will need to switch to Energy Locals as their electricity provider.
In addition to financial savings, participants also have the option to receive a complimentary energy audit, which will provide tailored recommendations to reduce energy consumption as well as optimise performance.
