In a bid to empower local businesses to play an active role in carbon reduction, the Greater Whitsunday Alliance (GW3) and the Resources Centre of Excellence are set to host the region’s inaugural Decarbonisation Accelerated Summit in May 2024.
GW3 Chief Executive Officer Kylie Porter expressed the summit’s primary goal: “The Decarbonisation Accelerated Summit is focused on unlocking thinking around decarbonisation and to provide a platform for actionable change across our region’s businesses, industries, and economy.”
Highlighting the significance of the event, Porter added: “This summit will be a pivotal event for our region’s businesses, charting a course towards unlocking new value stream opportunities associated with decarbonisation in the Greater Whitsunday region.”
The summit, slated to bring together thought leaders, industry experts, and innovative minds, will feature keynote speaker Michael McQueen — a bestselling author and international trend specialist.
McQueen will delve into the transformative potential of decarbonisation, shedding light on how local initiatives can drive global change.
Joining McQueen is sustainable development specialist ThinkZero Founder Cle-Anne Gabriel — who will provide businesses with practical tools and case studies to kickstart their net zero journeys.
The summit boasts a lineup of Australia’s leading decarbonisation experts and industry leaders, including representatives from BHP, Clean Energy Council, Main Sequence, Sedgman, Cauldron, and the Sustainable Minerals Institute.
Steven Boxall from the Resources Centre of Excellence stated: “The Decarbonisation Accelerated Summit is an initial step for businesses, especially those in the METS sector, to take as we support the region’s industries to decarbonise.”
With a focus on driving innovation and collaboration, the summit aims to accelerate the adoption of low-carbon activities and product development across all sectors, ultimately transforming regional business and industry practices.
The Decarbonisation Accelerated Summit is scheduled for 23 May 2024, at the Mackay Entertainment and Convention Centre (MECC).
Tickets are now on sale, offering attendees the opportunity to be part of a transformative event aimed at shaping a sustainable future for the region.
