TotalEnergies has entered into a significant Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with Saint-Gobain to supply renewable electricity to the latter’s French facilities.
The agreement, set to commence in January 2026, will provide 875 GWh of clean energy over a five-year period.
Under the terms of the PPA, TotalEnergies will deliver a baseload supply of electricity to Saint-Gobain, complete with guarantees of origin.
The power will be sourced from TotalEnergies’ wind and solar plants located in northeastern and southern France, as well as the Loire Valley.
This new contract builds upon a previous agreement signed in June 2023, which involved the sale of biomethane produced at TotalEnergies’ BioBéarn site to Saint-Gobain.
Sophie Chevalier, Vice President of Flexible Power & Integration at TotalEnergies, expressed enthusiasm about the new contract, stating it demonstrates their shared commitment to decarbonising the French industry.
She highlighted TotalEnergies’ renewable portfolio in France, which exceeds 2 GW and prevents the emission of 800,000 tonnes of CO2 annually.
Swaroop Srinath, Energy Purchasing Director for Saint-Gobain, emphasised the importance of this agreement in achieving their goal of net-zero carbon emissions by 2050.
He noted that with this PPA and others signed by the group in France, 30 per cent of their electricity will come from renewable sources in France by 2027.
This agreement follows similar contracts TotalEnergies has signed with other major corporations, including Air Liquide, Amazon, LyondellBasell, Merck, Microsoft, Orange, and Sasol.
These partnerships showcase TotalEnergies’ capability to develop tailored renewable energy solutions for a diverse range of customers, supporting their decarbonisation efforts.
The collaboration between TotalEnergies and Saint-Gobain represents a significant step forward in the transition to renewable energy sources in French industry, demonstrating the growing commitment of major corporations to sustainable practices and carbon reduction strategies.
