Energy Locals launches fair gas deal in Victoria and New South Wales

02 Sep, 2024
City of Sydney -- gas ban

Energy Locals, the award-winning Australian energy provider, has expanded its services to include gas in Victoria and New South Wales.

This move aims to challenge the market dominance of major providers and offer consumers a more affordable and environmentally conscious alternative.

The new gas service, available to both existing and new customers, features competitive pricing and 100 per cent carbon offset for all usage as standard.

This initiative comes at a time when gas prices have surged, and major energy companies are reporting record profits amid a cost-of-living crisis.

Adrian Merrick, founder of Energy Locals, stated: “Energy Locals was founded to disrupt the energy industry, challenge the big players, and make energy fairer for Australian households and businesses.

“With more than 75 per cent of Australian households’ gas tied to the big three providers, it’s clear that increased competition is essential to protect consumers from being charged more than they need to.”

Merrick emphasised the importance of consumers reviewing their gas provider choices, noting that loyalty to long-standing providers may not always result in the best rates.

He added: “If you’ve been with your gas provider for a while, there’s a good chance you could save by switching to Energy Locals.”

The decision to include gas in their service offering was driven by customer demand, despite Energy Locals’ recognition that gas is not a long-term sustainable solution.

As the 2024 and 2023 Finder Green Energy Retailer of the Year, the company carefully considered this expansion.

Key features of Energy Locals’ gas service include:

  1. Carbon offsetting for 100 per cent of customers’ gas usage
  2. Reinvestment in cleaner energy alternatives
  3. Transparent pricing with annual changes only
  4. No lock-in contracts or exit fees
  5. Local, award-winning customer support based in Melbourne

This new offering aligns with Energy Locals’ mission to provide fair, transparent, and sustainable energy solutions to Australian consumers.

By entering the gas market, the company aims to increase competition and offer a trusted alternative to the dominant providers.
