The University of NSW SMaRT Centre has published three scientific papers that show waste coffee grounds and hydrogen from other wastes can be used as part of its patented Green Steel technology.
In the latest research breakthroughs on the centre’s Green Steel Polymer Injection Technology, industrial trials with partner Molycop have shown various wastes can be used to more sustainably make steel in electric arc furnaces.
Wastes including plastic and coffee grounds now join waste rubber tyres as alternative sources of coke and coal as carbon sources for steel making.
They can also provide the element hy... more
QLD government makes major investment in Wambo wind farm
Queensland’s Wambo wind farm near Dalby has received $192.5 million from the Queensland state government, set to deliver more than 200 jobs and 252 megawatts of cheaper, cleaner energy.
Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk said the Queensland government was ready to step up with funding for Wambo from the $2 billion Renewable Energy and Hydrogen Jobs Fund.
She added that investing in renewables provides cheaper and cleaner energy, powers more jobs, creates more industries, and supercharges the resources sector with demand for new minerals.
Palaszczuk said: “This is part of our commitment to achieving 50 p... more
Renewable hydrogen plant to fuel heavy transport in QLD
Construction of a renewable hydrogen plant expected to fuel heavy transport in Queensland’s Western Downs is expected to start in the next six months.
The Queensland government will provide $28.9 million towards a renewable hydrogen demonstration plant and refuelling facilities on the Western Downs as part of Queensland’s plan for economic recovery that will support the state’s ambitions to become a hydrogen and renewable superpower.
