Sun Cable Pty Ltd has announced it will enter voluntary administration, with the aspiration to unlock access to additional capital for continued development of its Australia-Asia PowerLink (AAPowerLink) project.
The decision is a consequence of the absence of alignment with the objectives of all shareholders. Whilst funding proposals were provided, consensus on the future direction and funding structure of the company could not be achieved.

Gippsland’s Star of the South achieves major project status
Bass Strait off the Gippsland coast has today been declared as an offshore renewable energy zone, a move welcomed by Australia’s most advanced offshore wind project, Star of the South.
Star of the South Chief Executive Officer Charles Rattray said the declaration puts Gippsland on course to become the home of Australia’s offshore wind industry.
“With strong winds, existing grid infrastructure and a skilled workforce, Gippsland is ideally positioned to capitalise on the jobs and investment offshore wind will bring to the region,” he said.

Celebrations over WA’s first pumped hydro solution in Walpole
Energy Minister Bill Johnston has announced construction has officially begun on a pumped hydro renewable microgrid, the first in Western Australia.
A collaborative project between WA-based engineering company Power Research and Development (PRD) and Western Power, the self-sufficient renewable solution will significantly improve power reliability for homes and businesses in Walpole.
It will be used as a blueprint for other parts of the State, and possibly nationally and internationally.

Cairns facilities to be 100 per cent powered by renewables
In a leap towards achieving its commitment to net zero, Cairns Regional Council has signed an historic agreement with publicly owned CleanCo Queensland that will see 80 of the Council’s largest facilities acquire 100 per cent of their electricity requirements from renewable sources from July 2024.

CDU campus contributes to sustainable urban development
The façade of Charles Darwin University’s (CDU) new city campus is completed ahead of the wet season, capping off the building’s main protection against Darwin’s tropical heat and humidity.
Standing 40 metres tall, with a combination of vertical and sloping design features, the building includes curtain wall with porcelain tiles, horizontal aluminium louvres, and various types of cladding to reflect the harsh Darwin weather, while ensuring the iconic Boab tree is not overshadowed.

Recycled glass and reclaimed asphalt used to revamp Clarence Street
Around 120,000 glass jars and more than 200 tonnes of reclaimed asphalt were used to refresh a one kilometre stretch of Clarence Street in Sydney.
This means nearly a quarter of materials used to renew more than 8,000 square metres of road surface is recycled. The City of Sydney resurfaces around 35,000 square metres of road each year.
Since July 2021, the City of Sydney has used around 1.5 million recycled glass jars and more than 6,000 tonnes of reclaimed asphalt in its road renewal program.

New $500 million biorefinery planned for Gladstone
Gladstone has been selected as the location for a new $500 million renewable diesel and sustainable aviation fuel biorefinery.
Acting Premier Steven Miles said Oceania Biofuels selected a site within the Yarwun Industrial Precinct in the Gladstone State Development Area for their new biofuel refinery, which is now under contract with Economic Development Queensland.

Next gen solar battery manufacturing plant to be built in Australia
Australian renewable energy company Zero Emissions Developments (ZED) has developed the technology to build longer lasting, greener, more efficient, and more affordable solar and electric vehicle (EV) batteries.
The company is seeking $30 million in private investment to build a manufacturing plant that will produce PowerCap batteries in South-East Queensland through the entity PowerCap Un Ltd.

Australia’s first green hydrogen project certified
ActewAGL’s hydrogen refuelling station in Canberra has been certified with renewable green hydrogen produced from 100 per cent renewable energy and with zero carbon emissions, thereby making it the first project to be certified under the Smart Energy Council’s Zero Carbon Certification Scheme.
