In a significant move towards sustainable energy production, AM Green and SJVN Green Energy Limited (SGEL) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for a long-term renewable energy partnership.
The agreement, inked on June 26, 2024, in New Delhi, outlines SGEL’s commitment to supply approximately 4,500 MW of carbon-free energy to AM Green’s upcoming green ammonia facilities.
One of world’s largest green ammonia platforms, AM Green’s ammonia production facility in Kakinada, India will have a one million tonne production capacity in two phases and ramping capacity to five million tonnes per annum of green ammonia by 2030 – equivalent ofone1 million tonne per annum of hydrogen.
This goal represents a significant portion of India’s green hydrogen production target under the National Green Hydrogen Mission.
The facility will produce, and export renewable ammonia derived from round-the-clock carbon free energy by 2027.
Renewable ammonia and other sustainable fuels from AM Green’s platform, will be compliant with EU RFNBO and Renewable Energy Directive requirements.
AM Green plans to integrate this solar and wind power sources with pumped hydro storage to ensure a consistent supply for its facilities.
SJVN has outlined a phased approach for project execution, with the initial phase set to deliver 1,500 MW within two years.
Mahesh Kolli, Founder of Greenko Group & AM Green, expressed enthusiasm about the partnership, stating: “We are delighted to partner with SJVN on one of the world’s largest carbon-free, renewable energy supply contracts.
“This partnership demonstrates AM Green’s emerging leadership position as a global clean energy transition solutions platform while contributing to India’s ambition of emerging as an exporter of reliable, sustainable and lowest-cost green molecules and its derivatives accelerating industrial decarbonisation globally.”
Ajay Singh, CEO of SJVN Green, echoed this sentiment, saying: “We are elated to embark on this collaboration with AM Green, as it holds tremendous potential for accelerating the development of renewable assets in India.
“The project also marks SJVN’s foray into supplying power to private sector entities. With our ambitious capacity addition targets, SJVN is actively pursuing opportunities across the spectrum and is keen to take forward this arrangement with AM Green.”
This partnership follows AM Green’s recent collaborations with international entities. In October 2023, the company signed an agreement with Gentari International Renewables Pte Ltd for joint investments in AM Green Ammonia Holdings BV (AMG Ammonia).
With a strong pipeline of power offtake agreements, including those with NTPC Renewables and Gentari, AM Green is positioning itself for a final investment decision on its first 2 MTPA green ammonia project early this year.
This move places AM Green at the forefront of green ammonia capacity development in India and globally.
