Energy storage provider Trinasolar has been chosen to supply high-efficiency solar modules for New South Wales’ first green hydrogen and ammonia facility, marking a milestone in Australia’s regional transition to clean energy.
Located near Moree in northern NSW, the Good Earth Green Hydrogen and Ammonia (GEGHA) project features a 27-megawatt solar farm.
Trinasolar is providing its 510W and 515W Vertex S+ modules to power the landmark development, with construction currently underway.
The modules utilise advanced n-type i-TOPCon technology combined with a heat-strengthened dual-glass design. This setup was specifically selected to withstand harsh regional weather conditions, minimise light-induced degradation, and maintain high performance over the long term.
By securing stable energy yields across the project’s lifecycle, the technology aims to lower overall operating costs and enhance long-term economic viability.
Once operational, the GEGHA facility is projected to produce up to 200 tonnes of green hydrogen and 4,500 tonnes of low-carbon ammonia each year.
The enterprise aims to replace imported, fossil-fuel-based fertilisers, directly supporting decarbonisation efforts within Australia’s agricultural sector.
“Projects like GEGHA demonstrate the important role solar plays in enabling emerging industries such as green hydrogen and low-carbon fertiliser production,” said Edison Zhou, Head of Australia and New Zealand at Trinasolar.
“Trinasolar is helping provide the renewable energy foundation for green hydrogen and low-carbon ammonia production.”
The project serves as a commercial pilot for decentralised fertiliser and hydrogen production, offering a blueprint that could be replicated throughout regional Australia.
Joe Cumming, Senior Project Manager at project developer Hiringa Energy, emphasised the necessity of reliable power generation for the venture.
“For a project intended to demonstrate a long-term regional model, reliable solar generation is critical,” Cumming said.
“Trinasolar’s n-type dual-glass technology and experience in the Australian market were important considerations in selecting modules for the project’s solar farm.”
