Major Townsville icon The Ville Resort-Casino has inked a major renewable energy deal with publicly owned CleanCo that will see the precinct powered by 100 per cent renewable energy by 2025.

Announced by Minister de Brenni at the Queensland Energy and Jobs Fair in Townsville, the initiative will be enabled by the Palaszczuk Government’s Queensland Energy and Jobs Plan.

The 10,000 megawatt/hour deal includes clean energy from Kaban Green Power Hub and delivery is now underway, scaling up to 100 per cent renewable by 2025.

Queensland Minister for Energy, Renewables and Hydrogen Mick de Brenni said the Queensland Energy and Jobs Plans was already delivering results for local businesses like The Ville.

De Brenni continued: “North Queensland has world-class renewable energy sources, and through publicly owned corporations like CleanCo, we are making those resources available to support our industries and communities to make the switch to renewable energy.

“The Ville was the first customer in Townsville to sign a clean energy supply agreement with CleanCo and with the pace of renewables coming online there’ll be plenty more to come.

“The power will travel via the Queensland SuperGrid, the nation’s largest, that goes end to end of the state, meaning that wherever energy is generated–we can capture it, send it, or store it where it’s needed most.”

CleanCo Chief Executive Tom Metcalfe said the publicly owned corporation’s portfolio had a unique mix of flexible, low-emission firming capability mixed with wind and solar generation, which allows it to offer reliable, competitively-priced clean energy to large-scale energy users.

Metcalfe added: “Our portfolio of low-emission and renewable energy generators allows us to deliver clean energy solutions with 24/7 reliability to help our customers thrive in a net zero future.

“We have a number of generating assets in north Queensland and I am proud that we are able to use these locally operated assets to provide locally sourced renewable energy for businesses like The Ville, as they pursue their sustainability goals.”
