
In a significant move towards advancing its clean energy goals, Queensland has officially welcomed its first Renewable Energy Jobs Advocate.
Aaron Johnstone, a veteran in public policy and industry collaboration, commenced his role today, marking a new chapter in the state’s renewable energy sector.
With nearly three decades of experience in shaping public policy and fostering industry partnerships, Johnstone is set to play a pivotal role in advising the government on creating new employment opportunities in the energy sector across Queensland.
His appointment is a key component of the Queensland Energy and Jobs Plan, underscoring the state’s commitment to a sustainable energy future.
Johnstone’s responsibilities are wide-ranging and crucial to Queensland’s renewable energy transition.
He will work closely with regional communities, stakeholders, industry leaders, and First Nations peoples to support the state’s transformation into a renewable energy powerhouse.
His role encompasses providing strategic advice to the government and key stakeholders, engaging with energy infrastructure proponents, and promoting new job opportunities, particularly in regional Queensland.
Minister for Energy and Clean Economy Jobs, Mick de Brenni, hailed Johnstone’s appointment as a significant step forward in the Queensland Energy and Jobs Plan.
De Brenni emphasised Johnstone’s role in fostering collaboration between industry, unions, councils, and First Nations communities to support employment, develop local workforce, and encourage investment.
Johnstone brings a wealth of experience to his new position, having previously held roles with Cement Concrete and Aggregates Australia and the Australian Industry Group.
He is also the founder of Interact Policy and Industry Solutions, further demonstrating his expertise in navigating complex policy landscapes.
Expressing his enthusiasm for the role, Johnstone stated: “I am delighted to be appointed as the first Queensland Renewable Energy Jobs Advocate. I am passionate about the importance of a fair and prosperous transition for Queensland in its renewable energy journey, and in ensuring benefits are shared across workers, communities, and First Nations’ groups.”
