Enphase Energy launches microinverter for solar roofs to Australia and New Zealand

Global energy technology company Enphase Energy has expanded its international footprint with the launch of its new IQ9N microinverter for residential solar across Australia and New Zealand.

Featuring advanced gallium nitride (GaN) technology, the IQ9N is custom-built to support the latest generation of high-power residential solar panels. The release follows rollouts in Europe and the US, targeting two of the world’s most mature rooftop solar markets.

The new units deliver a peak efficiency of up to 97.95 per cent and operate at lower temperatures. By supporting 16 amperes of continuous DC current and 427 volt-amperes of continuous output power, the microinverters maximise energy production from each individual solar module.

“Australia is one of the world’s most advanced rooftop solar markets and a natural next step in the global expansion of IQ9N microinverters,” said Ken Fong, Enphase Energy’s senior vice president and general manager for the Americas and Asia Pacific.

Unlike traditional string inverters, Enphase’s distributed architecture converts power at the individual panel level, eliminating high-voltage DC lines on the roof to create a safer, all-AC system.

The GaN technology reduces heat and conduction losses, making the IQ9N highly suited to Australia’s harsh, high-temperature conditions.

Kallan Smith, director of New South Wales-based installer GoSolar Newcastle, noted that local homeowners demand maximum value from their solar systems.

“IQ9N microinverters bring Enphase’s latest GaN-based technology to the roof, helping maximise production from each panel while pairing seamlessly with Enphase IQ batteries,” Smith said.

Encased in a double-insulated, corrosion-resistant polymer housing, the units are built to withstand extreme weather ranging from -40°C to +65°C and are backed by a 25-year limited warranty.

“With some of the highest rooftop solar penetration anywhere in the world, Australian homeowners expect their systems to turn every available ray of sunshine into real savings,” said Kallan Smith, director at GoSolar Newcastle, an installer of Enphase products in the Hunter region of New South Wales, Australia.
