EDF Renewables, the dedicated renewable energy subsidiary of the EDF Group and a global leader in low carbon energy, has acquired the Banana Range Wind Farm development project in Queensland from Goldwind Australia and Lacour Energy.

The Banana Range Wind Farm will be located approximately 120 kilometres south-west of Gladstone and 20 kilometres west of the town of Biloela in Central Queensland.

The project is currently in the feasibility phase and when constructed it will comprise up to 50 wind turbines with a power output of approximately 280 megawatts. The project could potentially include large-scale battery energy storage as well.

EDF Renewables said the project will benefit from an excellent wind resource and proximity to a robust point of connection on the backbone of the transmission network. EDF detailed it will further develop, construct and operate the project, with the start of construction currently targeted for late 2022.

Patrick Charignon, Vice-President Asia-Pacific at EDF Renewables, declared: “We are very happy to take this important step in Australia with the Banana Range Wind Farm, which will be developed by EDF Renewables’ local team as part of a broader project pipeline. Our projects will deliver competitive, reliable, renewable power and help drive the transition to a sustainable energy future.”
