The Western Australian government’s efforts to build a State of Energy in WA have been boosted with construction now underway on a major job-creating wind energy project in the Wheatbelt.
Located between Williams and Narrogin, Neoen’s Narrogin Wind Farm is expected to create more than 250 jobs at the peak of construction, delivering a significant economic uplift for the region.
The project is underway thanks to a government agreement to purchase power from the completed wind farm and its designation as a Priority Project under the State Development Act 2025.
This combination of factors has given the developer the confidence to move ahead with construction, unlocking investment that will flow through the local economy in the years ahead.
Once complete, the wind farm will be capable of generating 179 megawatts of renewable energy, enough to power nearly 100,000 homes with clean, reliable, and affordable power every year.
The project represents a substantial addition to the state’s renewable energy capacity, tapping into the Wheatbelt’s world-class wind resource.
Earlier this year, Energy and Decarbonisation Minister Amber-Jade Sanderson directed Synergy to sign Power Purchase Agreements with several developers, including Neoen, as part of a broader push to bring more renewable energy online across the State.
Synergy has also entered into agreements with Zephyr Energy for Parron Maam Marang Farm, Kondinin Energy for Kondinin Wind Farm, and Bright Energy Investments for the Warradarge Wind Farm Stage 2.
Together, these four wind farms are expected to provide enough energy to power more than 700,000 homes for a year once complete, marking a major step forward in the state’s transition to renewable energy.
Narrogin Wind Farm is expected to be operating in late 2028, joining a growing pipeline of renewable projects set to reshape the state’s energy mix over the coming years.
Energy and Decarbonisation Minister Amber-Jade Sanderson welcomed the start of construction, saying the agreement with Synergy had been central to getting the project off the ground.
“I am thrilled work is about to start on Neoen’s Narrogin Wind Farm after Synergy agreed to buy its renewable energy,” she said.
Sanderson said Power Purchase Agreements were proving critical to attracting renewable energy investment to WA.
“Power Purchase Agreements give developers the certainty they need, unlocking investment in renewable energy projects that will benefit the entire state,” she said.
She said the completed project would deliver significant benefits to households across the region.
“When complete, Narrogin Wind Farm will provide clean, reliable, and affordable renewable energy for nearly 100,000 homes,” she said.
The Minister added that projects such as this were central to the government’s broader energy and jobs agenda.
“Projects like this are fast-tracking the energy transition, creating great local jobs, and realising the Cook Labor government’s vision for WA to become a renewable energy powerhouse,” she said.
With construction now underway, the Narrogin Wind Farm adds to a growing list of renewable energy projects progressing across Western Australia, as the state continues efforts to strengthen its energy security while supporting local employment and reducing emissions ahead of the 2028 target for the wind farm’s completion.
