ACCIONA Acquires Kwinana Waste-to-Energy Facility

08 Mar, 2024
ACCIONA

ACCIONA has acquired 100 per cent ownership of Western Australia’s Kwinana Waste-to-Energy project in an agreement reached with Macquarie Capital and Dutch Infrastructure Fund.

ACCIONA’s investment provides certainty for the ongoing construction and future operation of the facility, its workers, and the local community.

The facility is on track to be operational in the last quarter of 2024 when it will divert up to 460,000 tonnes of waste per annum from landfill and deliver 38 megawatts of baseload power to the Western Power grid, sufficient to power more than 50,000 households.

ACCIONA Australia Chief Executive Officer Bede Noonan said, “ACCIONA is delighted to be playing such an important role in the delivery of Australia’s first Waste-to-Energy facility – a vital asset that will deliver critical waste management infrastructure and sustainable energy to Western Australia.

ACCIONA is pleased that our investment has secured the future of this project and provided certainty to the local community and the workers who are either directly or indirectly employed by the project.

This investment further supports our long-term commitment to Western Australia through the development of key sustainable infrastructure solutions including the Mundaring water treatment plant, the New Bayswater Station, and the Bunbury Outer Ring Road,” Mr Noonan said.

ACCIONA will ensure a smooth transition and will continue to keep the State Government, local councils and key stakeholders informed of the project’s progress as it continues to focus on completing the construction and bringing into operation this important waste-to-energy facility in Kwinana.

About project
