09 Jul, 2024
WorldGBC welcomes new Board members to drive sustainable building initiatives

The World Green Building Council (WorldGBC) has announced the election of seven distinguished professionals to its Board of Directors, including two new members who bring fresh perspectives and expertise to the organisation.

Michael Brooks, CEO of REALPAC from Canada, and Hugh Lim, Executive Director of the Centre for Livable Cities (CLC) from Singapore, were elected as new board members during WorldGBC’s Annual General Meeting (AGM) in London on June 27, 2024.

The AGM, which took place during the WorldGBC Leadership Summit 2024, Building the Transition, also saw the re-election of five existing directors for an additional two-year term.

Prior to the AGM, on June 24, the Board of Directors appointed members to serve on the Executive Committee.

Jennifer Layke, Global Director of the Energy Program at World Resources Institute, was designated as Chair.

Habiba Al Mar’ashi, President of Arabia CSR Network and Co-Founder & Chairperson of Emirates Environmental Group, was named Vice Chair.

Davina Rooney, CEO of GBCA, will serve as Treasurer, while Matthew Bell, EY Global Leader for Climate Change and Sustainability Services, will act as Secretary.

Cristina Gamboa, CEO of WorldGBC said: “It is such an honour to welcome the newly elected Directors to the WorldGBC Board, who will support our organisation and network in building momentum for the sustainable and just transition of the built environment.”

The Board of Directors will focus on implementing WorldGBC’s refined strategy over the next two years, which aims to connect global ambition with local action.

Key priorities include empowering changemakers, equipping finance actors with guidance and tools, and enabling ambitious, equitable policies.

The WorldGBC Board of Directors for 2024 comprises a diverse group of sustainability leaders from various countries and organisations.

In addition to the Executive Committee members, the board includes representatives from Chile, Kenya, Costa Rica, Ireland, Germany, and the Czech Republic.

As the organisation moves closer to its 2030 milestones, the expertise and leadership of these board members will be crucial in translating WorldGBC’s strategy into real-world success and catalysing sustainable solutions for the built environment on a global scale.
