Salta achieves first 5-Star Green Star industrial milestone

Salta achieves first 5-Star Green Star industrial milestone

Salta has reached a significant milestone in sustainable industrial development, achieving its first 5-Star Green Star Buildings v1.0 certification for a purpose-built warehouse and distribution facility designed for leading supply chain provider Martin Brower in Dandenong South.

The 9,500-square-metre custom warehouse, paired with 690 square metres of office space, marks Salta’s inaugural 5-Star Green Star Certified Industrial Development and stands as only the fifth building nationwide to secure the certification under the new Green Star Buildings tool.

This places Salta alongside industry leaders such as Mirvac, Charter Hall, Goodman, and Stockland.

Salta Managing Director Sam Tarascio highlighted the certification as a testament to the company’s commitment to environmental, social, and governance (ESG) leadership, following the launch of Salta’s ESG strategy in 2023.

“At Salta, we’re committed to building leading, high-quality properties that not only reflect who we are and what we stand for but also the social and environmentally conscious organisations who choose to locate within our precincts,” said Tarascio.

“We are thrilled that our tailored and premium approach for Martin Brower has been recognised by the Green Building Council of Australia with a 5-Star Green Star Certification.

“This aligns with our long-term focus to reduce our environmental impacts progressively through good building design and efficient operations,” he added.

The facility sets a new benchmark for sustainable logistics warehousing, featuring a 625 kW solar array, a ‘cool’ office roof reflecting over 75 per cent of solar heat, low VOC paints and adhesives, end-of-trip facilities, electric vehicle charging stations, and a thermally efficient building envelope.

Davina Rooney, CEO of the Green Building Council of Australia, praised the achievement: “Salta’s 5 Star Green Star Buildings certification is a fantastic milestone-not just for their industrial portfolio but for the broader shift towards sustainability in logistics.

“Industrial developments are a crucial part of Australia’s built environment, and it’s great to see Salta and Martin Brower leading by example with high-performing, sustainable facilities,” Rooney said.

“This achievement demonstrates the power of good design and smart thinking in reducing environmental impact while delivering long-term value for businesses and communities.”

Salta’s internal management structure ensures continued sustainable operations, with in-house projects, facilities, and asset management teams overseeing the premises.

“As with all key building services and operating performance, we consult with existing and prospective customers when developing and refurbishing our properties and estates to understand their ESG priorities and aspirations,” said Tarascio.

Nikki Paton, Salta’s Director of ESG, noted the company’s longstanding commitment, stating: “We have always taken a long-term view to help improve the way people live and work every day.

“Salta has been an early adopter of Green Star rating tools and have been members of the Green Building Council of Australia since 2007.”

“Whether it’s reducing energy, reducing water, reducing waste or focusing on incorporating healthy building design principles, our aim is to future-proof our assets for not only our tenants but the broader communities,” Paton said.

The Martin Brower facility’s certification adds to Salta’s growing portfolio of Green Star-certified buildings, including 1 Nexus Court at Nexus Mulgrave, which was the first office building outside the Melbourne CBD to secure a 5-Star Green Star As-Built Certification.
