In a major move for sustainable housing in Australia, Ingenia Communities has achieved Green Star Homes Designed certification for all 262 homes in its new community in Beveridge, Victoria.
This initiative marks the first large-scale implementation of Green Star Homes, establishing a new standard for sustainable housing at scale.
Davina Rooney, CEO of the Green Building Council of Australia, praised Ingenia’s commitment to building sustainable land lease homes for Victorians.
“Ingenia is redefining seniors living by delivering homes designed for energy efficiency, health and resilience,” Rooney stated.
The Beveridge development demonstrates how sustainability can be seamlessly integrated with affordability and livability.
The homes are fully electric and solar-powered, eliminating gas usage and generating renewable energy.
This design is expected to save residents approximately $2,066 annually in utility bills compared to 30-year-old gas-powered homes.
Other key features of the community include high-performance insulation, airtight design achieving a minimum 7.5-star NatHERS rating, double-glazed windows, and a recycled water system.
These elements not only enhance energy efficiency but also contribute to residents’ comfort and wellbeing.
Ingenia CEO John Carfi emphasised the broader impact: “This initiative not only delivers sustainable, cost-effective housing for senior Australians but also builds capacity across the construction sector.”
The Beveridge community is also targeting a 4-star Green Star Communities certification, featuring an embedded energy network, recycled water systems, and communal electric vehicles.
This project represents a significant step forward in Australia’s journey towards sustainable housing, proving that eco-friendly design can be both accessible and affordable for all Australians.
