Esperance has joined the WA EV Network with its first 150kW fast charger now live. Horizon Power’s charging station, at Esperance RSL carpark, 84 Dempster Street, is the first of eight locations in the Goldfields-Esperance region to be completed.
The Esperance charging station is the second Horizon Power site, after Exmouth, to be equipped with two DC fast chargers. The additional charger will allow four EVs, instead of two, to be charged at the same time, in as little as 20 minutes.
The WA EV Network is being delivered by Horizon Power and Synergy and is a crucial part of the Cook Government’s $43.5 million investment to boost EV infrastructure in Western Australia.
Other WA EV Network chargers are opening soon in Coolgardie, Warmun, Derby, Halls Creek, Norseman and at the Overlander Roadhouse, with 18 sites now live.
There have been more than 3,600 charging sessions along the Network since the first charging site went live in Geraldton in April 2023. Last month, Synergy fast chargers in Merredin and Southern Cross came online.
The WA EV Network will be the longest in Australia and one of the largest in the world – with 98 charging stations across 49 locations – covering 7,000km and stretching north to Kununurra, along the South West coast to Esperance and east to Kalgoorlie and Eucla.
WA Energy Minister, Bill Johnston said “The WA EV Network’s first fast charger in Esperance brings the total to 18 different locations, making it easier for EV drivers to explore our wonderful State.
“The Cook Government is proud to be leading the way for the rest of the country – delivering Australia’s longest EV network and one of the largest in the world.”
Climate Action Minister, Reece Whitby added, “The WA EV Network is providing critical infrastructure which will help drive the uptake of electric vehicles and will provide an important pathway towards decarbonising road transport and improving air quality in Western Australia.
“Our investment in the WA EV Network is another example of the strong commitment by this Government to climate change and reducing our greenhouse gas emissions.”
