Trinasolar unveils Shield Extreme Climate Solution and Elementa 2 Pro battery in Australia

As Australia contends with increasingly unpredictable and extreme weather, Trinasolar has launched a first-to-market solution designed to help solar developers protect their assets and maintain performance-regardless of the forecast.

The Shield Extreme Climate Solution, unveiled at the Smart Energy Conference in Sydney on April 9-10, delivers next-generation protection for utility-scale photovoltaic (PV) plants through a combination of high-strength structural modules and intelligent, weather-responsive tracking.

Developed and tested specifically for the Australian market, with trials conducted in Queensland, the Shield Extreme Climate Solution is tailored to withstand the country’s severe weather events.

The system’s reinforced module, the NED19RC.20, features glass that is 25 per cent thicker than conventional modules and boasts 2.5 times greater resistance to energy impact.

Its innovative frame design increases load-bearing capacity, further enhancing stability and reliability.

In the event of severe hailstorms, the Shield solution can withstand hailstones up to 55mm at 0 degrees and 75mm at 60 degrees.

When hail is forecast, the system’s smart tracker automatically adopts a protective angle to minimise damage.

For high winds, the solution endures pressures up to +8000Pa/-6000Pa in fixed mounting systems, thanks to a dual fastening and triple-beam installation design.

The system also excels in snowy conditions, supporting up to 2.2 metres of uneven snow load and enabling remote, one-click snow removal to prevent power losses and ensure stable operation.

The Shield system is equipped with Trina’s self-developed Tracker Control Unit (TCU) and Network Control Unit (NCU), integrated into a smart cloud platform.

This infrastructure enables real-time monitoring and automatic adjustment of module inclination based on wind speed, employing a tiered stow strategy to balance risk mitigation with maximised power generation.

The structure’s innovative design increases mechanical load capacity to +3600/-3000Pa.

Data from the Queensland testbed demonstrates that the Shield solution not only protects PV assets but also delivers significant financial benefits.

The setup achieved a 2.84 per cent reduction in the Levelised Cost of Energy (LCOE) and an overall customer value increase of 0.0364 AUD $/W.

Trinasolar’s i-TOPCon Ultra modules, known for high efficiency, power, and bifaciality, generate more electricity during early mornings, late evenings, and overcast days.

The TrinaTracker SuperTrack intelligent algorithm further boosts power generation by leveraging AI and big data.

Alongside its advanced PV modules, Trinasolar has introduced the Elementa 2 Pro 5MWh battery energy storage solution to the Australian market.

Building on the success of the Elementa 2, the new system features Trina’s self-developed 314Ah high-performance Trina Cell, supporting 15,000 cycles (up from 12,000 in the previous model) to significantly extend system lifespan and reduce lifecycle costs.

The Elementa 2 Pro incorporates an intelligent hybrid air-liquid cooling system, maintains internal temperature differences within 2.5 degrees Celsius, and reduces auxiliary power consumption by 30 per cent.

It is C5 corrosion-resistant certified, IP67-rated for waterproofing and dustproofing, and designed to operate efficiently even in harsh coastal and high-temperature environments.

As the only provider in the industry offering an integrated suite of solar modules, battery energy storage systems (BESS), and trackers, Trinasolar is uniquely positioned to deliver a comprehensive, high-performance energy ecosystem.

The company empowers developers to build more resilient, efficient, and future-ready solar projects, ensuring stable and reliable energy generation in Australia’s challenging climate.

With these innovations, Trinasolar sets a new benchmark for climate resilience and operational efficiency in Australia’s renewable energy sector.
