Swiss Steel Group launches eco-friendly Green Steel Stainless+

25 Jun, 2024
Swiss Steel Group launches eco-friendly Green Steel Stainless+

Swiss Steel Group, a global leader in special steel long products, has successfully introduced Green Steel Stainless+, a groundbreaking variant of completely stainless steel that adheres to the highest ecological standards.

This innovative product demonstrates the company’s commitment to sustainability and environmental protection.

Green Steel Stainless+ boasts exceptional properties, including corrosion and heat resistance, excellent mechanical characteristics, and non-magnetic options.

Its visual and architectural advantages make it suitable for a wide range of applications, from construction and automotive industries to household appliances, medical equipment, and aerospace technology.

The production of this eco-friendly steel utilises Electric Arc Furnace (EAF) technology, allowing Swiss Steel Group to use scrap as its primary input material.

At Ugitech, a subsidiary of the Swiss Steel Group, the average recycling rate in 2023 reached an impressive 77.4 per cent, comprising both new scrap (internal and production scrap) and old scrap (post-consumer).

Green Steel Stainless+ is manufactured in accordance with ISO 14021 standards, incorporating over 95 per cent recycled material.

The company sources and sorts its scrap carefully, primarily from Europe.

These measures have resulted in a significant reduction of Scope 3 emissions for Stainless+ by over 75 per cent, with a CO2 footprint of approximately 1.0 tCO2e per tonne of steel supplied.

Swiss Steel Group’s commitment to sustainability is further emphasised by its position as a key player in Europe’s circular economy.

The company’s total emissions are up to 83 per cent lower than the industry average, offering customers an environmentally friendly option with added value.

The launch of Green Steel Stainless+ marks a significant milestone in Swiss Steel Group’s efforts to provide more sustainable products while meeting customer needs and protecting the planet.

This development aligns with the growing demand for eco-friendly materials in various industries and reinforces the company’s role in shaping a greener future through innovative steel production.
