Schneider Electric unveils grid innovations to boost reliability and climate resilience

Schneider continues to lead the way in external ESG ratings

Schneider Electric has announced a suite of innovative solutions aimed at enhancing grid reliability and helping utilities better manage extreme weather events.

The company showcased these advancements at Enlit Europe 2024, addressing the growing challenges faced by the energy sector in light of global climate change.

A key focus of Schneider Electric‘s latest offerings is the improvement of digital energy solutions to drive grid reliability.

The company has strengthened its digital grid capabilities, introducing a Net Zero dashboard integrated with EcoStruxure ADMS and DERMS.

This new tool provides utilities with crucial metrics and key performance indicators for monitoring grid decarbonisation, enabling them to quantify emissions and gain valuable insights for sustainability strategies.

In response to the increasing threat of wildfires and severe storms, Schneider Electric has enhanced its mitigation capabilities for extreme weather events.

The company is implementing strategies powered by the AiDash platform, which utilises satellite and AI technology to provide real-time insights and analytics.

These advancements aim to help utilities better prepare for and manage extreme weather conditions, reinforcing grid resiliency.

Schneider Electric has also made significant progress in the deployment of its Distributed Energy Resource Management System (DERMS).

In partnership with Elektrilevi, a European utility, the company is rolling out a full-scale DERMS project using a stepwise approach.

This deployment follows a successful proof-of-concept that validated Elektrilevi’s acceptance criteria.

The DERMS solution enables greater grid flexibility and efficient integration of distributed energy resources (DER), addressing the growing complexity of grid constraints resulting from the rapid increase in distributed renewable assets.

Frederic Godemel, EVP Power Systems and Services at Schneider Electric, highlighted the company’s commitment to delivering comprehensive solutions that accelerate progress for all stakeholders in the electricity value chain.

He stated: “The integration of smart grids and innovative digital technologies is essential for achieving a sustainable future.”

These innovations come at a critical time, as recent climate agreements have highlighted the urgency of modernising electric grids to phase out fossil fuels and enhance renewable energy adoption.

With renewables projected to contribute 35 per cent of total electricity generation in Australia by 2030, Schneider Electric’s advancements are poised to play a crucial role in facilitating the energy transition and creating a more resilient, efficient, and sustainable energy landscape.
