In a landmark move for Australia’s circular economy, social enterprise PonyUp for Good has announced a partnership with Rejoose, a global leader in carbon emission data solutions for the tech sector.
This collaboration makes PonyUp the first Australian social enterprise to offer businesses end-to-end monitoring of the IT carbon footprint across the entire lifecycle of their technology assets.
PonyUp for Good, established in 2016, has built a reputation for collecting retired technology from major Australian businesses — including Telstra, Australia Post, Atturra, and Xero — then securely cleansing and refurbishing devices for resale.
The company operates with a “reuse first” policy, diverting e-waste from landfill and donating 50 per cent of profits to food rescue charity SecondBite, which provides fresh meals to Australians in need.
The new partnership integrates Rejoose’s e.voice circularity solution into PonyUp’s reporting suite, delivering clients accurate, auditable documentation of CO2 savings from tech refurbishment projects.
This innovation provides a tangible, real-time view of the environmental benefits of repair and reuse over replacement, helping businesses stay accountable to Net Zero targets and setting a new standard for carbon reporting in the circular economy.
PonyUp for Good Co-founder, Cat Harding, emphasised the urgency of robust carbon reporting: “Clients aren’t just asking for CO2 reporting – they’re demanding it.
“With new business legislation mandated in 2024, hitting Net Zero isn’t optional anymore, and this tool will provide the visibility and trusted data sets needed to take real, measurable action.
“We also believe the data will highlight the real carbon benefits of ‘reuse first’, and with the residual value being turned into nutritious meals, this makes it an attractive proposition for clients with ESG targets.”
Martin Skou, Rejoose’s Global Head of Circular IT Partnerships, echoed this sentiment, stating: “We are happy at Rejoose to support the amazing initiatives from PonyUp for Good, and we are fully committed to support their partners in achieving ambitious Net Zero goals by delivering reliable and GHG-compliant data.
“This partnership resonates with our entire team and reflects values we truly stand by.”
Since its inception, PonyUp and its partners have diverted more than 600,000 kilograms of technology, equivalent to 14.5 Boeing 737s, from landfill, with 32.5 per cent of equipment reused by weight.
When devices cannot be refurbished, PonyUp works with the Australia and New Zealand Recycling Platform (ANZRP), ensuring compliance with the National Television and Computer Recycling Scheme (NTCRS) and exceeding national audit and recycling standards.
ANZRP CEO Carla Vasconi welcomed the announcement: “This announcement is extremely timely.
“Businesses are facing a balancing act, to maintain a positive image and navigate ESG at a reasonable cost.
“Easy solutions for businesses to be able to tell their story through data are increasingly in demand.”
Atturra, a leading advisory and IT solutions firm and one of PonyUp’s corporate donors, highlighted the importance of transparent metrics.
COO David Dekker stated: “Carbon metrics are critical for informed and responsible decision-making. When businesses can measure their impact, it ensures there is visibility to influence meaningful change.”
PonyUp’s unique model not only addresses e-waste but also food insecurity, with co-founders Mardi Brown and Cat Harding recently celebrating the donation of one million fresh meals to SecondBite.
As the demand for robust, auditable ESG data grows, this partnership sets a new bar for how Australian businesses can drive measurable social and environmental impact through technology lifecycle management.
