PakTech, producer of 100 per cent recycled and recyclable multipack packaging solutions, has announced a new partnership with Endeavour Group and the launch of its local manufacturing operations in Australia.
This development coincides with the assessment of PakTech’s multipack beverage can handles as recyclable through the Australian Packaging Covenant Organisation (APCO) ARL program.
Through this partnership, PakTech and Endeavour Group will collaborate to expand Endeavour Group’s closed-loop recycling scheme, focusing on collecting recyclable PakTech clips from its 270+ Dan Murphy outlets.
This initiative aims to promote the recovery, recycling, and re-use of PakTech handles, thereby diverting waste from landfills and reducing carbon emissions associated with packaging supply.
PakTech, known for its 100 per cent recycled and recyclable secondary packaging, can manufacture up to 75 million recycled multipack beverages annually within Australia. Its current customers in Australia include Asahi, Billson’s, Hawkers Beer, and various craft beer, seltzer, and wine manufacturers.
The company has also seen significant growth in the US market, counting CPG (Consumer Packaged Goods) giants like Pepsi, KraftHeinz, and Johnson & Johnson among its customers.
Brandon Rogers, CEO at PakTech, expressed excitement about the company’s entry into Australia, stating: “We’re now able to fulfil our vision of made in Australia, recycled in Australia, and repurposed again into new products in Australia.
“We’re also absolutely thrilled to be partnering with a champion of sustainability such as the Endeavour Group. They, like us, know the importance of sustainability and are willing to take action; not tomorrow, but today.”
Rogers highlighted the increasing consumer demand for sustainable packaging and emphasised the importance of sustainability and the circular economy, stating that they are no longer competitive differentiators but expectations.
He praised Endeavour Group for its commitment to sustainability and expressed confidence in the partnership’s ability to promote the circular economy and reduce single-use plastics in Australia.
PakTech products are manufactured using high-density polyethylene (HDPE), a recyclable material also used in milk bottles, detergent bottles, and toys.
Through a recovery, recycling, and remanufacturing process, PakTech and its partners aim to maximise the collection of used materials, which are then repurposed into new products.
All of the HDPE plastic used by PakTech comes from recycled material, contributing to the circular economy and reducing reliance on single-use plastics.
Sarah McElholum, Circular Economy Sustainability Manager at Endeavour Group, commented on the partnership: “Endeavour are proud to be partnering with PakTech to support the continued recycling and re-use of PakTech products. PakTech products play a great role in the reuse of plastic from products such as milk bottles and cream jars.
“We are also continuously working to improve the recyclability and reuse of our beverage packaging for our customers.
“Our partnership with PakTech, along with our cork collection and wine bottle divider recycling schemes within stores such as Dan Murphy’s, give our customers another chance to help avoid landfill and give packaging another life.”
PakTech’s launch in Australia, through a contract manufacturing facility in Sydney, NSW, and a proprietary partnership with Visy, comes at a time of increasing public demand for sustainable packaging solutions.
Despite some progress, Australia’s recycling rate has not improved since 2006/7, highlighting the need for initiatives like PakTech to drive change.
By using 100 per cent recycled material, PakTech has repurposed approximately one billion recycled milk bottles into its products globally, saving 63,000 tonnes of plastic from landfills and oceans, and preserving 54 acres of land from landfill waste.
