Australian flooring leader Andersens has announced a major collaboration with ResiLoop, the nation’s first dedicated product stewardship scheme for floor coverings, to combat the 60,000 tonnes of resilient flooring waste sent to landfills annually.
The initiative, backed by major industry suppliers, focuses on recycling vinyl offcuts from installations and transforming them into products like garden edging, available through national retailers.
ResiLoop, established through the Australian Resilient Flooring Association (ARFA), addresses waste at its source by collecting offcuts via a network of registered floor layers.
These materials are diverted from landfills and repurposed, marking a significant step toward a circular economy.
Andersens’ participation enables franchisees to offer customers eco-conscious choices, reinforcing the company’s leadership in sustainable practices.
“Through ResiLoop, we align with our commitment to reducing waste and promoting a circular economy,” said Rowan Hodge, CEO of Andersens.
The program’s funding model includes a nominal consumer levy — adding just $21 to the cost of flooring an average-sized new home — to support recycling operations and R&D for new applications.
Alongside ResiLoop, Andersens continues its Project Green initiative, which has planted over 390,000 trees since 2020 through its One Project – One Tree program.
Fully funded by franchisees, the effort aids global reforestation, including wetlands, mangroves, and bushfire recovery zones.
“Integrating ResiLoop with Project Green strengthens our sustainability at every stage,” Hodge added.
ResiLoop CEO Sophi MacMillan emphasised the scheme’s scalability, stating: “The levy’s minimal consumer impact drives meaningful recycling outcomes.”
The collaboration positions Andersens at the forefront of an industry shift toward reducing environmental footprints while delivering durable, stylish flooring options.
