The Infrastructure Sustainability Council (ISC) celebrated outstanding achievements in sustainable infrastructure at its tenth annual Infrastructure Sustainability Awards.
The prestigious event, held during the ISC Connect 24 conference in Sydney on October 25, 2024, recognised nine winners for their exceptional contributions to the field.
The awards showcased the industry’s commitment to delivering infrastructure that goes beyond basic connectivity, emphasising economic development, social performance, environmental management, effective governance, and resilience.
This year’s competition was particularly fierce, reflecting the sector’s growing expertise and ambition in sustainable practices.
Toby Kent, CEO of the ISC, highlighted the significance of the awards, stating: “These awards highlight the best of sustainable infrastructure in Australia and Aotearoa New Zealand.
“Every year the competition gets tougher as the collective expertise of the sector builds on the achievements of previous years.”
The judging panel recognised five projects for excellent performance, two organisations for creating sector-wide impact, and two individuals for exceptional leadership in sustainable infrastructure.
Additionally, three projects and one emerging leader received high commendations.
Holcim, a leading supplier of innovative and environmentally sustainable building materials, partnered with ISC for this year’s awards program and Gala Dinner.
The company took the opportunity to unveil its sustainability-focused new brand identity at the conference.
George Agriogiannis, CEO of Holcim Australia and New Zealand, emphasised the company’s commitment to sustainability, stating: “Our new brand represents more than just a fresh look — it embodies our ambition to lead the way in creating a sustainable future for construction.”
Jeremy Stone, Deputy Chair of the ISC, underscored the awards’ role in driving innovation and best practices across the infrastructure sector.
He noted: “Designed as an accelerator, they play an important role in raising the bar on the ambition of the best minds and leaders in the sector, and at the same time socialising the winners’ achievements and speeding their adoption across the whole infrastructure supply chain.”
The Infrastructure Sustainability Awards continue to play a crucial role in promoting and recognising excellence in sustainable infrastructure, encouraging the industry to push boundaries and create more resilient, environmentally friendly, and socially responsible projects.
