Euro Manganese achieves key milestone with battery ore plant operation

31 Oct, 2024
Euro Manganese achieves key milestone with successful demonstration plant operation

Euro Manganese Inc. (ASX: EMN) has announced a significant achievement in the development of its Chvaletice Manganese Project in the Czech Republic.

The company successfully completed a five-day continuous operation program at its on-site Demonstration Plant, exceeding target production levels and producing high-purity electrolytic manganese metal (HPEMM).

The Demonstration Plant operated for 120 hours continuously, producing 172 kilograms of HPEMM, surpassing the target of 132 kilograms by over 30 per cent.

This achievement marks a critical technical milestone, demonstrating the technological maturity of the Chvaletice Manganese Project and supporting the company’s path to the next draw-down from the Orion financing package.

The plant successfully produced HPEMM flakes with a purity of 99.9 per cent Mn.

The next phase will focus on the production of high-purity manganese sulphate monohydrate (HPMSM), which is essential for battery technologies.

Dr Matthew James, President & CEO of Euro Manganese, commented on the achievement, stating: “The successful completion of 120 hours of continuous operations while exceeding target production by 30 per cent is another important technical milestone, and is a testament to the operations team’s knowledge, skill and operating discipline.

“This key step enhances our technological maturity.”

The Chvaletice Manganese Project holds strategic importance as the only sizable resource of manganese in the European Union.

As the global transition to higher manganese battery chemistries accelerates, Euro Manganese is well-positioned to benefit from the growing demand for high-purity manganese.

The project is unique in that it involves recycling waste from a decommissioned mine, aligning with sustainable and circular economy principles.

It aims to produce high-purity manganese products for the electric vehicle industry, potentially supplying up to 20 per cent of the projected 2030 European demand for high-purity manganese.

With this successful demonstration, Euro Manganese has reinforced its position as a key player in the European battery materials market, supporting the EU’s goals for a sustainable and secure battery supply chain.
