Global Power Generation Australia and Telstra have signed a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) for the 260 MW Glenellen Solar Farm in New South Wales, which will provide Telstra with 50 per cent of its generated electricity.
The agreement is expected to produce 210 GWh of electricity annually, equivalent to powering over 37,000 homes and reducing CO2 emissions by approximately 130,000 tonnes per year.
The Solar Farm project owner, Global Power Generation Australia, is the Australian subsidiary of Global Power Generation (GPG), the international power generation branch of the Spanish multinational Naturgy Energy Group (Naturgy), the largest integrated gas and electricity company in Spain and Latin America, operating in over 20 countries.
The construction phase is anticipated to generate about 200 jobs, significantly contributing to the Albury area and surrounding communities.
The Glenellen Solar Farm employs innovative agro-voltaic technology, allowing for sheep grazing among the solar panels.
This approach helps preserve the land’s agricultural value while producing sustainable energy, demonstrating a balance between renewable energy production and traditional farming practices.
This agreement aligns with Telstra’s recently announced decision to increase its scope 1 and 2 emissions reduction target from 50 per cent to 70 per cent by 2030.
The company now supports seven renewable energy sites across Victoria, Queensland, and New South Wales, all either under construction or in operation.
The Glenellen Solar Farm represents a significant step in Telstra’s commitment to renewable energy and supports Australia’s target of achieving 82 per cent renewable energy by 2030.
