EV charging infrastructure company EVX has worked with the City of Sydney and Ausgrid to deploy nine EV chargers across the streets of Sydney — the new kerbside chargers are a critical addition to the city’s EV charging network.
The Australian-made EVX Polecharger has been designed to meet the challenges utility providers and local governments face in building EV charging infrastructure sustainably.
The chargers have been deployed across inner city areas including Millers Point, Dawes Point, Pyrmont, Newtown, Camperdown, Darlinghurst, Alexandria, Rosebery and Glebe.
EVX CEO Andrew Forster said: “Areas of urban Sydney with little or no off-street parking will greatly benefit from this fundamental infrastructure, and these new chargers have been strategically located to serve these communities.”
These EVX charges don’t require any additional cables to use and the cost rate is $0.50 per kWH.
Drivers simply need to download the EVX Australia app, scan the QR code on the charging point before plugging in the charger into their EV.
The phone app displays the availability of charges and users will need to supply the charging cable compatible with their individual vehicle.
The unit includes an AC dual 22 kilowatt (total 44 kilowatt) ready charger and has a maximum capacity of 11 kilowatts per socket — the total charge time will depend on vehicle specifications and battery utilisation.
The unique EVX Polecharger solution suits parallel street parking in residential areas where users may not have access to off-street parking or power capacity in their apartment complex for EV charging.
“With over 8 per cent of new cars sold in Australia now EVs, a rapid scale-up of charging infrastructure is going to become more important.
“Being able to install these new chargers in just a week shows that rapid deployment of new kerbside charging infrastructure is possible to meet the rising demand,” said Forster.
Sydney EV drivers can now use on-street chargers at:
- 16 Kent Street, Millers Point
- 12 Trinity Avenue, Dawes Point
- 55 Pyrmont Street, Pyrmont
- 8 Brown Street, Newtown
- 15 Carillon Avenue, Camperdown
- 3-19 Yurong Street, Darlinghurst
- 2 Huntley Street, Alexandria
- 27 Morley Avenue, Rosebery and
- 75 St Johns Road, Glebe.
Founded in 2021, EVX is one of the country’s newest EV charging infrastructure companies.
