Moving towards sustainability in the construction industry, Hilti Australia and Kennards Hire have announced a pioneering Fleet Partner collaboration.
This partnership aims to revolutionise equipment innovation while promoting improved sustainability and circularity outcomes in the construction and hire sectors.
The collaboration comes at a crucial time, as the construction industry increasingly prioritises environmental responsibility.
According to Kennards Hire’s 2024 Construction Confidence Check, 32 per cent of construction leaders rank the use of ‘green equipment’ or eco-friendly tools as a top priority in their environmental, sustainability and governance approach.
A key feature of this partnership is its focus on equipment lifecycle management.
End-of-hire Hilti equipment will undergo a thorough assessment for parts reuse, repurposing, or recycling.
Tools that have reached the end of their serviceability are evaluated at Hilti’s state-of-the-art repair centre.
Results include:
- Up to 5,300 spare parts reused annually
- Approximately 2.25 tonnes of electronics, motors, and rotors were saved from disposal
- Estimated five-year recycling potential of almost 17,500 kilograms of materials (steel, aluminium, copper)
- Over 2,500 spare parts expected to be extracted and refurbished
Both Hilti Australia and Kennards Hire are demonstrating a strong commitment to reducing their environmental impact — as the partnership includes:
- A five-year hire life for Hilti tools in Kennards Hire branches
- Reuse, repurposing, or recycling of products after their hire life
- Innovative circularity reporting for tracking sustainability efforts
Nathan Venables, Kennards Hire General Manager of Fleet & Procurement, highlighted the importance of this initiative, stating: “Our partnership with Hilti is about leading the charge in sustainable practices within the hire industry.
“Hiring quality, well-serviced equipment goes a long way to reducing a project’s environmental footprint.”
The collaboration also expands Kennards Hire’s product range, giving customers access to over 3,500 Hilti products across 22 product lines.
This includes popular items like the TE1000 AVR Concrete Breaker, TE700 AVR Max Breaker Hammer, and TE 70-ATC/AVR Rotary Hammer.
Jeremy Campbell, Head of Marketing at Hilti Australia, highlighted the shared vision of both companies, stating: “Safety, productivity and sustainability are crucial factors in any DIY or construction project.
“Hilti’s fleet partnership with Kennards Hire optimally rotates tools out of service at the right time, improving safety and productivity, whilst taking care to sustainably recycle, repurpose or reuse tools.”
This collaboration marks a significant step forward in promoting sustainability within the construction and equipment hire industries, setting a new standard for environmental responsibility and operational efficiency.
