Autodesk has been announced as the Official Design and Make Platform for the LA28 Olympic and Paralympic Games, a partnership that will see its software play a crucial role in supporting the Games’ $1 billion temporary overlay and construction plan.
This collaboration aims to adhere to sustainable design principles while avoiding the construction of new permanent venues by adapting existing structures or building temporary infrastructure.
The LA28 Games will utilise Autodesk’s software to retrofit over 40 competition and non-competition venues across Southern California, including the iconic LA Memorial Coliseum.
This approach aligns with the commitment to sustainability, as retrofitting existing buildings significantly reduces carbon emissions compared to new construction.
Autodesk’s technology will aid in shortening timelines, reducing costs, and incorporating sustainable design principles throughout the project.
Autodesk’s software, including the Autodesk Construction Cloud and Building Information Modeling (BIM) tools, will facilitate collaboration among thousands of stakeholders involved in the design, development, and delivery of the venues.
This partnership will also support LA28’s collaboration with public transportation agencies to ensure efficient movement of residents and visitors during the Games.
Andrew Anagnost, President and CEO of Autodesk, expressed excitement about the partnership, stating: “Our partnership will enable Autodesk software to do more than ever before. Together with LA28, we will help prepare Los Angeles for not only a 29-day celebration but also strengthen the greater Los Angeles community by embarking on our shared vision of a more sustainable Games.”
Casey Wasserman, Chairperson of LA28, highlighted the importance of Autodesk’s technology in realising the vision for the Games: “Together, we will develop the right plan to support 12-15 million ticketed fans over such a short period of time.
“We are honoured to have Autodesk on board for the next four years as we embark on our shared commitment in innovative design that can serve as a precedent for many Games to come.”
Beyond the immediate needs of the Games, this partnership aims to leave a lasting positive impact on Los Angeles.
Autodesk’s expertise will be leveraged to create sustainable improvements not only for the Olympic and Paralympic events but also for the broader Los Angeles metro area, setting a new standard for future sporting events.
