In a significant milestone for renewable energy in Australia, a Greenwich family has become the first in the nation to receive the highly anticipated Tesla Powerwall 3, the latest innovation in solar battery technology from the tech giant.
Greg Spencer, whose family of four has been spending approximately $5,000 annually on electricity bills despite having existing solar panels, is set to see substantial savings with the installation of the Powerwall 3.
The Spencer household, which includes electric vehicle charging and plans for a new pool with electric heating, will double its solar output and add the Powerwall 3 home battery to achieve energy independence.
“I won’t ever have to pay peak power rates again, and for most of the year I will be energy independent,” Spencer stated.
Natural Solar, Australia’s largest solar battery company, will install the Spencer’s renewable home energy solution.
The package includes a Powerwall 3 with an integrated solar inverter, paired with a 13.3 kWp solar array.
The system also features monitoring software that will allow the family to track energy flows and the direct impact of the Powerwall 3 on their electricity usage.
Chris Williams, CEO and Founder of Natural Solar highlighted the significance of this installation, stating: “Powerwall 3 is a game changer which will deliver unprecedented electricity bill savings while also delivering greater blackout protection and resiliency in the face of the ever-increasing electricity grid instability.”
The Powerwall 3 boasts several improvements over its predecessor, including up to 10kW of backup power, a smaller footprint, and a fully integrated solar inverter.
It can store up to 13.5 kWh of energy and comes with a 10-year warranty.
Former NSW Energy Minister and current Chair of the Climate Change Authority, Matt Kean, emphasised the importance of this milestone, stating: “Installation of Australia’s first Powerwall 3 by Natural Solar is a significant milestone and shines a positive light on the future of green energy in the country.”
With the introduction of the Powerwall 3, coupled with available rebates and incentives, more Australian households may find it feasible to invest in home battery storage.
As electricity prices continue to rise and grid instability becomes a growing concern, solutions like the Powerwall 3 offer homeowners a path to energy independence and significant long-term savings.
