Western Australia Premier Roger Cook has departed for Indonesia and Singapore on his first overseas mission since the state election, aiming to deepen strategic and economic ties and reaffirm the state’s vital role in the region’s energy transition and decarbonisation efforts.
During his visit, Premier Cook will meet with senior government and industry stakeholders in Surabaya and Singapore, with a particular focus on celebrating the 35th anniversary of the Western Australia–East Java sister-state relationship.
While in Indonesia, he is set to engage with the East Java Provincial Government, the Indonesia Australia Business Council East Java Chapter, and the Australian Consul-General in Surabaya.
A highlight of the trip includes a meeting with Persebaya Surabaya Football Club, who will visit Perth in July for an exhibition match against the WA Men’s State team, an event expected to draw significant attention both locally and in Indonesia.
WA Premier Cook will then travel to Singapore, Western Australia’s fourth-largest trading partner, where he will participate in a roundtable discussion with government, business, and investors to explore opportunities in energy transition and decarbonisation.
Singapore accounts for $14 billion in total trade with WA, representing more than 40 per cent of Australia’s trade with the city-state.
Meanwhile, Indonesia remains WA’s ninth-largest trading partner, with key exports including iron ore, petroleum, and wheat.
Premier Cook said: “Indonesia and Singapore are crucial trading partners for WA — that’s why I’m prioritising this important region for my first overseas mission since the State Election.”
He added: “In 2025, we celebrate the 35th year of the sister-state relationship with East Java which continues to provide such a beneficial and fulfilling agreement for both sides.”
