Squadron Energy has launched a call for expressions of interest from qualified contractors for its Spicers Creek Wind Farm project in New South Wales.

The 700MW wind farm, located in the Central-West Orana Renewable Energy Zone (CWO REZ), is currently undergoing NSW and federal government planning approvals.

Following a strategic alliance with GE Vernova that secured an advance order of wind turbines, Squadron Energy is now seeking contractors for various work packages on the Spicers Creek project.

The procurement process is set to run throughout 2024/25, with work expected to commence in 2025/26, pending planning approvals and the outcome of the CWO REZ Access Rights process.

Dan Banovic, Acting Executive General Manager of Delivery at Squadron Energy, emphasised the importance of this proactive approach: “We’re on a mission to deliver green energy as quickly as possible to replace aging coal-fired power stations and meet our ambition of launching 14GW of new projects by 2030.

“Running a procurement process while we work through the final stages of approvals means we can move into delivery in a timely manner.”

The company is seeking contractors for various work packages, including:

  • Civil balance of plant work scopes
  • Electrical balance of plant work scopes
  • Operation and maintenance of building design and construction
  • Accommodation camp for workers

The proposed Spicers Creek Wind Farm will comprise up to 117 wind turbines and battery energy storage, located on Wiradjuri Country, west of Gulgong and northeast of Wellington.

Once operational, the project is expected to generate enough electricity to power more than 395,000 homes and prevent 650,000 tonnes of emissions annually.

The wind farm is projected to create more than 330 jobs and inject $46.9 million into the regional economy during construction.

Squadron Energy is also encouraging local contractors and service providers to register their interest in supplying goods and services for the project.

Interested contractors can submit their expressions of interest online until Thursday, July 11, 2024.

This initiative aligns with Squadron Energy’s commitment to developing renewable energy projects across Australia.

The company currently has 1.1 gigawatts of renewable energy in operation and 900MW under construction, with plans to launch 14GW of projects by 2030.
