Delburn Wind Farm to power Victoria’s local communities

Delburn Wind Farm to power local communities

Vestas has been selected to supply and install 33 state-of-the-art V162‑6.2 MW EnVentus™ wind turbines for the SEC Delburn Wind Farm in Victoria’s Latrobe Valley, marking a major milestone in the region’s transition toward clean, reliable energy generation.

The project, representing a 205 MW order from the State Electricity Commission (SEC) of Victoria, will use the latest turbine technology mounted on 168‑metre hub heights to maximise energy capture and operational efficiency.

Supported by a 30‑year service agreement, the wind farm is designed to provide dependable renewable energy for local communities and industries over the long term.

“The SEC Delburn Wind Farm is an important project for Victoria and will play a critical role in bolstering our electricity network as more coal assets retire in the coming years,” said Chris Miller, CEO, SEC Victoria.

Located south of the Latrobe Valley and near existing transmission infrastructure, the Delburn Wind Farm is expected to supply renewable electricity to more than 130,000 Victorian homes each year.

As Australia’s most advanced plantation‑based wind farm, Delburn will also make a distinctive contribution to grid stability, generating power at different times from many Western Victorian wind facilities and helping to balance overall energy supply.

The project aligns closely with the Victorian government’s clean energy targets and the SEC’s renewed mandate to expand public involvement in renewable energy.

With its strategic siting in the heart of the Latrobe Valley, historically known for coal generation, Delburn symbolises the region’s evolving energy landscape and a shift toward sustainable, local power generation.

Danny Nielsen, Senior Vice President and Country Head of Vestas Australia & New Zealand, said the collaboration demonstrates confidence in proven, next-generation wind technology.

“Working with the SEC at Delburn, we are delivering proven wind technology that strengthens Victoria’s energy reliability and underpins long‑term energy independence.”

The wind farm’s delivery phase will bring considerable benefits to the local economy.

Construction is expected to generate more than 300 jobs, with many of those opportunities arising within the Latrobe Valley and surrounding communities.

Vestas will begin delivering turbine components in the second quarter of 2027, with commissioning scheduled for the fourth quarter of that year.

Equipped with Vestas’ modular EnVentus™ platform, each of the 33 turbines will combine industry-leading rotor design, digital optimisation, and predictive service capabilities to enhance energy output across varying wind conditions.

This technology represents a step-change in efficiency, enabling the Delburn Wind Farm to contribute meaningfully to Victoria’s renewable energy pipeline.

By coupling advanced turbine systems with a long-term maintenance partnership, Delburn is positioned as one of Victoria’s most forward-looking renewable projects.

The combination of innovative design, reliable service, and strategic placement near existing transmission will ensure consistent, high-quality power generation for decades.

When complete, the SEC Delburn Wind Farm will serve as a landmark example of how public and private collaboration can drive Australia’s clean energy future.

It will be replacing carbon-intensive generation with dependable renewable infrastructure that powers homes, industries, and local growth across the Latrobe Valley.
