Aula Energy acquires 1 GW of solar farms from Lightsource

23 Feb, 2026
Hookey Creek Solar Farm receives approval

Aula Energy has acquired one gigawatt of operational solar farms from Lightsource bp and a developmental pipeline of up to 800 megawatts of co-located big battery storage projects.

The renewable energy developer said the acquisition expands its clean energy business across New South Wales, Queensland and Victoria.

The operating assets include West Wyalong Solar, Wunghnu Solar, Woolooga Solar, Wellington Solar and Wellington North Solar. Each project has an option to develop a co-located battery energy storage system (BESS).

Auala said the projects are complementary to its wind projects currently under construction, as well as its wind and BESS projects in development. Aula is developing the Boulder Creek wind farm in Queensland and the Carmody’s Hill wind farm in South Australia.

Chad Hymas, CEO of Aula Energy, said: “Today’s announcement marks another significant milestone in Aula Energy’s growth journey. With the acquisition of these operating assets, we continue to scale our business, deliberately building a portfolio of assets that will meet the long-term energy needs of Australian communities.

“We are building a business supported by strategic partners who can grow with us.

“Our track record since 2023 reflects their confidence in our capabilities and our focus on delivery.

“This acquisition strengthens our ability to support Australia’s energy transition while creating long term value for our shareholders and communities.”

The newly acquired solar farms will integrate into Aula’s growing national asset base as it continues to progress new development opportunities.

Day-to-day activities at the solar farms will continue as usual.
