Lime, the global micromobility leader, has been selected as the shared e-scooter provider for both Auckland and Christchurch, solidifying its position in New Zealand’s urban transportation landscape.
Since its 2018 launch in the country, Lime riders have completed over 15 million trips on the company’s e-scooters and e-bikes.
William Peters, Lime’s Senior Director of Government Relations APAC, expressed gratitude for the opportunity to continue serving these cities.
“We are proud to have never wavered in our service here.
“We feel this selection reflects the work we’ve done with the cities and with our partners in the community,” Peters stated.
Lime’s impact extends beyond transportation, contributing to New Zealand’s environmental goals.
The company reports that since 2018, it has helped eliminate over 3.7 million car trips, resulting in the removal of more than 1,250 tonnes of CO2 and saving almost 550,000 litres of fuel.
Lime is set to introduce two new seated vehicles — the LimeGlider and LimeBike.
These models, currently in pilot mode, are designed to appeal to a broader audience with features such as a lower center of gravity, step-through frames, increased cargo capacity, and upgraded onboard technology.
The company stated that these new vehicles incorporate feedback from underrepresented users, including women, older adults, and those with varying abilities.
As Lime continues to expand its services, the company maintains its focus on safe riding and proper parking.
Peters highlighted the various uses of their e-scooters, from commuting to work and meetings to facilitating tourism by providing efficient transportation between attractions.
Lime’s renewed contracts in Auckland and Christchurch reflect its ongoing commitment to providing sustainable transportation solutions in New Zealand’s urban centres.
