Horizon Power launches WA EV Network’s first DC fast charger in the Gascoyne

07 Sep, 2023

The Gascoyne has joined the WA EV Network with a new electric vehicle DC fast charger now operational in Carnarvon.

Installed by Horizon Power, the latest charging station includes a 150kW DC fast charger and a back-up 22kW AC charger and is located at the Carnarvon Visitor Centre.

Carnarvon is the first of six locations in the Gascoyne receiving Horizon Power DC fast chargers as part of the WA EV Network, which is installing 98 charging stations across 49 locations in WA.

Delivered by Horizon Power and Synergy, the WA EV Network is opening the State up to EV drivers, with the average distance between charging stations around 200 kilometres.

When complete, the $21 million Network will stretch over 7,000 kilometres from Kununurra in the north, to Esperance in the south and east to Eucla, helping to make clean transportation more accessible to communities across WA.

WA EV Network charging stations are now operational in 10 locations across the State including Broome, Albany, Geraldton and in Kings Park, which Synergy opened yesterday.

Horizon Power EV charging stations are opening soon in Exmouth, Karratha, Esperance and Denham, with construction starting in Warmun, Kununurra and Derby.

The WA EV Network opened in April 2023 and is part of the State Government’s State Electric Vehicle Action Plan for WA.

Horizon Power Chief Executive Officer, Stephanie Unwin, said today’s launch of the DC fast charger in Carnarvon was “great news for the town and the region and an important milestone for the WA EV Network”.

“It is exciting to see charging stations taking shape around the State, with many more due to be installed over coming months,” she said.

“Horizon Power is dedicated to delivering innovative projects like the WA EV Network which are providing efficient, reliable, and sustainable energy solutions to our regions.

“We are proud to be partnering with Synergy and collaborating with local governments, businesses, and community organisations to develop the Network, ensuring that it meets the needs and expectations of our diverse regional communities.”
