Cementir launches lower-carbon white cement in Australia

Cementir Group has announced the launch of D-Carb CEM II/A-LL 52.5N in Australia, making it the first Asia Pacific market to introduce this new, lower-carbon addition to the D-Carb product family.

Produced by Aalborg Portland Malaysia, a Cementir Group subsidiary, the new white cement is engineered to deliver a 12 per cent reduction in CO₂ emissions compared to traditional products, while maintaining the high performance, whiteness, and durability that define the Aalborg White® brand.

This innovation directly addresses the construction industry’s challenge of achieving sustainability without compromising the aesthetic and technical qualities demanded in white cement applications.

D-Carb CEM II/A-LL 52.5N offers high early strength, improved workability, and superior whiteness, making it especially suitable for high-end architectural concrete, precast components, and projects requiring intricate finishes.

The product’s launch in Australia aligns with the country’s strong decarbonisation goals and growing demand for sustainable building materials.

“The demand for low carbon white cement is rapidly increasing across APAC markets, particularly in more mature markets like Australia,” said Fabrizio Piero Carraro, Managing Director for Aalborg Portland APAC region.

“This growth is being driven by clear policy direction, defined industrial decarbonisation targets and rising environmental awareness among industry players.

“As a result, we are seeing a strong shift toward white cement solutions that offer both reduced carbon emission and high performance.”

D-Carb® CEM II/A-LL 52.5N is designed to support industrial end users in their decarbonisation efforts, enabling a smooth transition to lower emissions without sacrificing performance at early ages.

The product will be distributed primarily in Australia, with plans to expand availability to other key APAC markets, further accelerating industrial decarbonisation across the region.

Michele Di Marino, Chief Sales, Marketing and Commercial Development Official of Cementir Group, said: “In 2024, D-Carb family was first launched in the European markets, where it quickly gained broad recognition and adoption across multiple industries.

“Expanding D-Carb family into APAC region bring us one step closer to our commitment to achieving net zero emissions by 2050 and witnesses our continued dedication to decarbonising our white cement products.

“It also strengthens our support for the building and construction sectors in meeting key decarbonisation targets.”

Stefano Zampaletta, Group Product and Solution Manager of Cementir Group, highlighted the balance achieved between sustainability and performance: “Innovation in low carbon products, driven by customer centric approach, is both a key strategic pillar of Cementir sustainability strategy and a shared ambition across our value chain.

“Achieving the right balance between lower carbon emissions and the high performance expected of white cement is no easy task, but we are proud of the progress we have made and the results we have delivered.

“Moving forward, D-Carb will continue to expand into new regions, meeting the increasing demand for sustainable, high-quality white cement solutions from our customers over the globe.”

Aalborg Portland, with over 90 years of history, is recognised as a global leader in white cement, operating production facilities on four continents and serving more than 80 countries.

The launch of D-Carb in APAC reinforces Cementir’s global commitment to decarbonisation and expands its portfolio of lower-carbon white cement solutions for the construction sector.
